I’ve never caught an eelpout, and would love to scratch that itch this year. Where is the closest place to get them consistently? And should I focus on big spoons and meat, or do you have another go-to suggestion?

I assume folks won’t be too stingy about giving up their vermin bite?!

My “go-to” for pout’ is any jigging spoon. Put minnow heads on all 3 of the hooks and lay on bottom or keep very close to bottom. Deep edge of mud flats on Mille Lacs is a good option!

Put six lines down in a permanent shack. Drink beer and go to sleep. Guaranteed to have a pout on all 6 lines in the AM.

Keep hearing bout the poor man’s…gotta finally get there and do it. Thinking about a one nighter, where can a guy get a cheap place for two, just lodging, no sleeper?

They are delish, but you don’t get a lot off of them for the size they are. Winnie, Mille Lacs, Leech, LOTW, Red all hold pout. Used to see them laying on the ice left to rot, but not so much anymore, which is a great thing!

Americas Best Value Inn (Used to be Americinn) in walker has 2 bed rooms for about $65. You would be within a mile from a bunch of great ‘pout water.
