when should a guy get an extension for his solo auger. At about 2-2.5′ is where I’m sitting at for ice thickness not use to this much ice. Whats your ice thickness before start thinking extension. Thanks in advance.

When the motor hits the ice and you can’t get through the ice.

I hold out as long as possible. So when the muffler meets snow then it’s time and not before.

I carry one with me at all times. I bought it when I bought my Strikemaster 224(love it!!). I just stuck it in one of the side pockets of my rod bag so I always have it with me that way it’s handy when I need it.

I tend to put it on a little before muffler contact. I had the unfortunate experience of having my throttle cable freeze wide open from attempting to drill without an extension and water splashed onto the motor. I use the taller 224 drill, so it’s not needed too often.
