I don’t have a problem using a 1/16 jig with a 2″ plastic. Big likes big in my opinion.

That is typically the size i’ll start with and size up or down from there. Crappies have no problem with large baits on most days, i’ve never been a fan of catching little fish anyway, so i’m usually targeting the larger of whatever species i’m after.

Another Bait I have been toying with is the Tear Drop

If the fish is showing a preference to a vertical presentation I will hook up my plastic straight down off the jig.. If they are looking for a horizontal presentation I will just start the plastic on the hook then leave the tail angle off the tear drop at 90 degrees..

Interesting you use a snap swivel and a bigger one to boot.

I’ve caught medium crappie on a 1/2 oz bucktail and magnum fathead when walleye fishing on the Wisconsin River. When they’re hungry, they are not shy.

Buddy and I caught 75 5″-10″ walleyes a couple weeks ago using the largest size macho minnow and a large complete fathead. It’s about a 6″ or longer presentation that these dinks were inhaling. All depends on the day. Couldn’t upsize big enough to not get them to bite.

I couldn’t agree more, I love using big baits for crappies and at times when the bite is tough and some guys downsize I will often go bigger. Most the time I do this just by changing to a bigger bodied plastic, but sometimes I will change the spoon or jig to a bigger one.

Biggest crappie I’ve ever caught (17″) was on a 4-5″ shiner on a tip up on Third Lake about 40 years ago.
