Marcum firmware update version 4.06?

Just that… I heard rumors that the new firmware version number is 4.06. And that there are some lucky individuals that have already obtained that update on the LX7’s.

Regardless I am just salivating on the wait for its actual release date. Ice seasons about half over…

Any word on what the update is going to accomplish?

I was emailed the V4.06 from a member on another site. I downloaded the update to my laptop but was a little nervous about downloading it into my LX-7. Thinking I’ll just wait till Marcum puts it out.

So marcum is emailing the update to certain individuals but will not release it on their website. Whats up with that?

MarCum will send the updates to pro-staff fisherman to do some testing and give them feed back before release to public. Most of the guys who are writing the updates really don’t have enough time to put the update through the paces or test, so they email it out to guys who are on the ice a lot. If anything needs to be adjusted they can re-write the update then release to public.

That was smart!!! As mentioned, it easier and safer to have a dozen guys putting it through the paces to make sure their isn’t any problems. Like any software, conflicts are a pain in the and the last thing a company wants is a couple thousand guys having issues. Unlike Microsoft, Marcum wants happy customers

It appears in v4.06 the dynamic range still has the graphic pixelation loss issue at the upper left side of flasher display mode. This issue doesnt seem to appear in auto, manual, manual dynamic range settings. I woulda figured this shoulda been an easy fix for Marcum or something overlooked?

While I can see what your talking about…..the big question..is this really an issue?
It looks to me that it doesn’t interfere with the actual readout….
I don’t use the dynamic range so I never noticed….but I’ll check it out next time I go fishing

I’ll let you make that call for yourself. To me this issue is however annoying and makes the read out jumpy.

Its confirmed that if you email Marcum and request it, they will provide you the LX7 v4.06 update. There are others who have posted the .bin file for download already. Update at your own risk and follow the proper install instructions. Failure to do so will render your LX7 useless.

My LX6 has issues with being jumpy in dynamic mode, but not any others.

Annoying seems to be the key word here

Listed features or fixes of v4.06

Transducer offset (similiar to a keel offset)

Manual dynamic range adjustment in 1 foot increments

    Enhanced shallow water performance

    Defaults to 6 color palette

Also dont be surprise if Marcum releases another update on top of v4.06 to address some further issues or bugs in the near future.

Will the update v4.06 work for my Lx6? Would really like to give it a test run for this weekend to see what the changes are.

While there are early releases of the code floating around from testing…I would strongly urge digital series owners to wait for final release of the official firmware on MarCum’s website.

Like I said I have the new V4.06 but I’ll wait until Marcum releases the version because more useful changes may be made bewtween now and then. I fished shallow water yesterday for gills in 5fow and when I was hole hopping and I drop the puck into the hole and then my jig it would take 3-4 minutes before the jig would appear on the screen and that delay was pissing me off! Hope the update resolves this issue!

First off, for those that might not know, Jon Marshall is the Brand Manager of Marcum Technologies, and the advice he offers is sound for a number of reasons. Just like you wouldn’t upload an executable file to your Windows or Apple machine that came from someone you met on the internet, it’s probably not a good idea to alter your Marcum in this way either. Even if the source can be trusted, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be running the very latest version vs. one of several testing revisions. I personally have tested two different versions that are not the final revision, and I know there’s been even more internally.

Another thing I’d like to address is that these are updates/upgrades, not patches. Patches imply bug-fixes, while these updates are meant to extend and improve functionality, not “fix problems.” There seems to be a rush to get this code to conquer some ailment of a machine that I think thousands of LX digital series owners would agree, is already at the pinnacle of sonar technology. If there were bugs of any consequence to be fixed, you can bet they’d have been released before the ice season.

So, everyone can take a deep breath, calm down, and wait for the final versions to be released via the Marcum site. It’s coming soon, and you can bet that the extra features will be worth the wait!

Annoying or not, this shouldn’t be acceptable quality for any consumer electronics. apple and google get crucified for a lot less.

Put it this way, if some computer science student turned in software that had this obvious a defect or bug they would be lucky to get a C.

Love my Marcum, but its clear they’re having growing pains with software development.

Its too bad they’re still fixing bugs this late in the lifecycle of the LX-7 as I really was hoping they would optimize the software and add some more/better controls that would make this an appealing option to put on my boat in the summer too.

and how does an early release get out anyway?it seems that all the testing on the 4.06 is done very openly.and the not yet completed versions are getting into the public hands. you would think that it would be one the most important things not to let happen.its like dropping a piece of meat in a tank full of piranha.anyway this is how it all starts.

Kevin. That is the same one I saw. I actually had someone send me that email to upgrade mine. Needless to say I am going to wait. I did email Marcum yesterday to see what they had to say. Hopefully I will get an email back from them. I would like to update mine as I have the next 2 days to fish and I have a few glitches going on right now. I asked Marcum if the new update would help that. See what they say.
