Depending on the size of lures/jig you use, it could be good or bad. If the jig/lure is very small, you can notice more time before your lure hit the desire depth (just bc the line hold memory coming out of the spool and takes time to tighten). If it med/big lures (1/16 to anything bigger), you will not notice anything much.

In many situations I feel 2lb is too light and is prone to breaking easier than what I like. I fish 3lb floro on my reels and 4lb on Tip Downs.

I hate having a big Crappie break off, at least they are alway Big Crappies in my mind!!

I use 2 lb mono for gills. I step it up to 4 lb for perch and crappie.

I have found some floro to be very stiff in the cold, you may want a traditional mono in 3#.

Regardless of what pound test anybody tells you to use line diameter is what matters. Every brand of fluro, mono, copolymer has different diameter for there labeled test. Xl, XT, ultrathin, ice line. Most of the stuff is identical its just diameter making the difference in how the line handles. Don’t concern yourself with the pound test due to this fact. Compare the diameter of the line you use verses others in the same diameter. I use fluorocarbon in .0065 diameter for all my panfishing. From ultra clear gill lakes where you can see bottom in 20 fow, to petenwell with 6″ of visability. I have no issues with breaking off fish or catching them. I laugh at the guys using thread when im outfishing them drastically.

For example the line I use is seaguar invizx 4# fluro. It had a diameter of .0065. While for example trilene xl has a diameter of .008. This is a prime example of why the labeled pound test is irrelevant and line diameter is all that matters.

I can relay my personal preferences, but so much of that revolves around where I’m fishing and what I’m fishing for. Talk to other guys, and they might have a totally different opinion. I prefer a 3lb co-poly (mono) for most panfishing situations, mostly because if I’m fishing backwaters or northern lakes with big gills, they tend to have quality bass in there. I know alot of guys who just accept that they’ll lose some jigs in that situation and fish 1lb and 2lb test religiously. Not me, I don’t want to lose a single fish I put a piercing in.

I do have a few combos spooled up with 1lb and 2lb floro for clear-water environments with big-gills, as these seem to be the most line-shy of the species I mess with. That said, in most water I fish, the 1lb/2lb line ends up needing multiple re-ties throughout the day and is simply more frustrating to deal with, so I tend not to use it unless the fish require it.

That’s my take, but get others and make a decision based on where you fish and what you fish for!

I use 2# sufix ice magic for finessing fish with my TUCR noodle, and 3# sufix ice magic on everything else.
