Heard a few reports that the bite really is tough on this area of the lake during the cold snap, hope this warmer wether changes this!

As in Zipple Bay on Lake of the Woods? If its slow in that area you have about another 3 million acres of water. Start drilling!

Seriously, having spent some time on that body of water there is ALWAYS a bite going somewhere. It’s just a matter of how hard you want to rip some walleye lip.

But then again maybe you mean a different Zipple Bay. I only know of the one on LOW.

In all seriousness…someone is always catching up there. Move and drill. Sometimes a slip bobber balanced perfectly is the most successful option.

How mobile are you and how bad do you want to stretch some line? If you have a snowmobile go shallower than anyone else early and late and during the day go deeper than anyone else. Never and I mean NEVER fish around ANYONE on that body of water. It simply isn’t necessary. If you enjoy structure fishing and the challenges that brings (insert drill, drill, drill, baby) then head towards Warroad and stop around Arneson’s reef, 5 mile, 16 mile, Archie’s and if you still can’t hook up head to Knight and Bridges or north or Garden. But again don’t fish around other anglers. There is a LOT of open water on LOW. Biggest mistake most anglers make on that body of water. But then again if everyone starts do this I suppose there be no open spaces anywhere, LOL!

If you are immobile well then your window of opportunity has just been greatly diminished. Try as best you can to get away from all the traffic, have some super steroidal live minnows (lake shiners from LOW) and balance your bobber so the most finicky walleye won’t feel the resistance. If your on fish and they won’t bite grab a heavy spoon (which most spoons are, too heavy) and start pounding the bottom. Shouldn’t be long before it’s “bobber down…”

Good luck and share your success stories when you return. FWIW

Kurt, Damn that sounds like a lot of work. Your advice sounds spot on though!I am going to zipple in a couple weeks for a long weekend to stay in a cabin
and fish in one of their houses, not exactly mobile I know, however Trevor borrowed me some of his slender spoons that should trigger the bite! lol hope your having a good winter!!
