Candlewood Lake Jumbo Perch

Hey guys, I am new to this forum but wanted to introduce myself. My name is Paul Mueller and I am a professional angler and multi-species guide from the state of CT. The primary lake that I guide on is Candlewood Lake in CT. I ice fished Candlewood today targeting jumbo perch and found a large school relating to a drop off adjacent to a main lake basin 30-40 FOW. All perch were caught using Reins 3″ Bubbling Shaker worms on 3/32 oz. zappu tungsten jig heads on 4# Gamma Fluorocarbon ice line. This was a large school and I probably had over 30 fish which ranged 11-14 inches. I let the bigger ones go and kept some of the smaller ones for a fish fry. It seems that the fish are in their mid winter pattern a little early this year but we have had an irregular fall/winter with rapid fluctuations in the weather. I will be posting more reports as well as ice fishing videos coming up in the near future. Tight lines

Nice looking perch. Seems like everyone fishing for perch these days is using a fish head on flashing spoon or slim blades. So I was curious what kind of worm this was… looks to have pretty good action.

I did a quick search to see what the Reins 3″ Bubbling Shaker worms are and see your youtube video promoting them, but catching a “green fish”.

The n/e part of the country is known for pumping out the biggest, baddest jumbos around. I’m not sure I want any part of that, lol.

One of my dad’s friends lives in CT a couple weeks ago he flew up here to WI to do some fishing and he was talking bout candlewood supposed to be a ton of huge smallies walleye and browns not to mention the previously stated perch, he was talking about “saw bellies” sounded like alewives being the main forage so that helps to grow the giants, god it would be awesome to have a lake like that around home

The predominant forage in Candlewood lake is alewives and the fishery is fantastic because of it. We have world class smallmouth, yellow perch, and crappie. It takes a 4 lb. average of smallies to win local tournaments. The trout fishery is not nearly what it used to be due to warmer summers and the walleye are in the lake but at a low density. When you catch one it is big though. Candlewood lake holds the state record for walleye (14lbs. 8 oz.) and I believe it will be broken again.
