Found this in my searches for a mako. About $100 less than retail. Thought I’d pass it on

I’ve been running that same auger this winter and I’m impressed. Its just a tad bit slower than a sm laser, but so is everything else. Starts first pull almost everytime (pulled it 4 times once before I flipped switch to on). Seems like a good deal even at the regular price.
castle-rock-clownPosts: 2596January 6, 2014 at 2:01 pm #1377486That place rocks, shipping was a little slow, but free on a frabill ice suit I purchased for $100 less than any other place I found at the time.
January 6, 2014 at 2:05 pm #1377489I bought that exact auger from L&M a year ago in store for that same price. Its my cabin auger. Works very well but heavy.
January 6, 2014 at 2:07 pm #1377491It’s a hidden gem! Otter 650 Cabin $499! 650 Lodge $599 Those are $200 cheaper than most of the big guys. I ordered an Auger and had it thirty hours from order placement.

You should have it in fifteen minutes!

January 6, 2014 at 2:42 pm #1377513Kind of wish they would have waited a day. I ordered some viper oil as well, and that won’t arrive until Weds. I’ll have to assemble the auger and just look at it all day tomorrow.
January 6, 2014 at 2:50 pm #1377516That’s the plan for next year. I’m going to use the viper oil until the warranty is gone (1yr) and then switch to amsoil saber.
castle-rock-clownPosts: 2596January 6, 2014 at 2:52 pm #1377518Vipers use 50 to 1 fuel oil ratio. Jiffys and strikemasters are 40 to 1. Go to hardware store and find husquevarna oil, one small bottle to 1 gallon gas is 50 to 1…but you might want to run a little more oil for first tankfull during break-in. See what owners manual says. My 71cc shark is an ice eating machine.

I ran Eskimo viper oil at first too. I used Jiffy this year when mixing up a new batch just because that is what I found at the store. Eventually I will go Sabre like everything else.
January 6, 2014 at 3:02 pm #1377526I read the manual online last night and it did not say anything about break-in period other than the clutch my slip for the first 2 hours or something like that. I thought for sure it would say to run it with a richer mix during break-in, but the only mention of oil is 50:1 and says nothing about break-in. I heard someone say once 24:1 for break-in, but if the manual doesn’t say to do that then I’m not going to!
Anyhow, I know there are probably a hundred different oils out there that can be used but I’m going to use the mfg recommended for the warranty period and then switch over next season. Already got the oil ordered, and will have extra since I bought a 6 pack and probably won’t even use 3 by this time next year. So I’ll have to find someone to give some to, or keep using it if the auger runs good. I haven’t heard any bad reports of the oil, most people said its pretty good stuff. I believe its semi-synthetic and has stabilizer already mixed in. Only cost me $12 for a 6 pack, I’ve spent more money on worse things!

The $200 shipping charge negates any savings from the cheap price they advertise on those houses.

I already go up there though, a lot of people plan it if there going to the area for a fishing trip or something. It’s obviously only good if you pick it up.
January 6, 2014 at 5:34 pm #1377582That 200$ shipping charge doesn’t imply when you ship to a store. L&M is the first place I stop when I go to Park Rapids. Best store around!!!
January 7, 2014 at 3:11 pm #1377891WOW! Have fun. Those double chipper blades cut good!
They spin the opposite of Jiffy’s so I had to learn all over again how to lean into it!milemark_714Posts: 1287January 7, 2014 at 5:33 pm #1377938Quote:

January 9, 2014 at 3:34 pm #1378649Got my auger up and running today. I did JUST shy, not by much, of 1 gallon of gas and 1 jug of the viper oil. So it should be right at 45-50:1, figured a little boost would help during the break-in period!
Filled the tank 3/4 full
Primed it 6 or 7 times until the bulb was full
Flipped the choke on
Hit the on switch
Pulled twice and she popped, pulled one more time and she started right up.Three pulls for a cold auger freshly filled with gas is pretty good isn’t it?
I let it idle for probably 5 minutes, slowly gave it some throttle to about 1/4 and let it go for a minute or two and then shut it down. Restarted with 1 pull with no choke and repeated, going to 1/2 throttle. Repeated again to 3/4 throttle, then repeated again to full throttle. The clutch did slip a bit at first, but by the time I was done I could fire it up with 1 pull and she would take right off.
I set it back down for 1/2 hour and came back. No choke, no priming, in one pull she started right back up.
She’s resting comfortably in the corner of the garage, ready to go Saturday morning!
PS: as for the oil, at full throttle it smokes just a little bit, but not much at all. No smoke at all at idle to 1/2 throttle. And that is mixed a little rich. Unless there is some problems once I hit the ice, I think I’ll be sticking with this oil.

Yes. Sounds hot, straight and normal. Giverhell Sat!
I’ll be giving the old Jiffy a workout then too.January 10, 2014 at 8:11 am #1378785Switch to Saber, you won’t be disappointed. My drill runs better with it and not as much “fumes”.
January 10, 2014 at 6:05 pm #1378945Want to hear a real kick in the balls? Was at the local sporting goods store talking to the manager and noticed a SM lazer 8″ with solo head box sitting there. I asked what he’s asking for it and he said “I’ll sell it to you for 329.99, I have to move it”. Price tag on it says $529.99.
