Lost Spoons

Yesterday I lost 3 slendar spoons while reeling them up. All three seemed to get caught on the ice and then the fast snap would come flying out of the hole. 2 times there was a fish on and the third time there was not. I was using a fast snap plus the spoons had the clip on that comes with them. Has anyone else had this problem?
I am thinking about removing the clips on the spoons and using more patience when reeling in.

I think I know what is going on, I had it happen with a chubby darter while playing with it in my fish tank. The fas-snap goes down and the little lip catches on the snap that is on the spoon (or split ring in my case) and then when it meets resistance the snap pulls free.

The fix is to run straight to the spoon and bypass the snap/split ring. The smallest size fas-snap is just big enough to work with the 1/16 slenders.

Here is what is happening, hope you can see it with the pictures. Try to duplicate it at home and you will see how little force it takes to pull free.

The dia of the duo lock wire is very thin combo that up with the quick snap and its very possible it slips out. Between this or Kevin’s scenario has to be one of them.

Use one or the other but not both.

3 is a lot to have lost.

X2 with Kevins scenario I have had this problem also, I played around and discovered same thing as kevin did, went straight to the spoon or whatever it might be and problem solved.

Wouldn’t using a DuoLock snap alone elminate the problem?
I don’t understand why you need 2 snaps. Give it a try.

Right on, but if you are fishing outside and your hands are cold the dual locks can be a pain to mess with. I’ll never be without a fas-snap on my spoon rods from now on! NEVER! They are amazing.

Im with Kevin. why do you need both of them?? Most guys I know fish to much to be losing lures of this quality just for a quick snap. I also put a swivel about 14 – 18 inches up to help prevent the twisting.
Hope all these tips help and I hope you start pulling in more fish.

Good luck out there and be safe.

I bought some Fastach clips in various sizes this fall…
They have been working well so far…

I’ve had issues with the fast snaps from lures coming off (rarely but it has happened) to having a very hard time getting lures on and off in the cold. I’m always able to easily work the cross-lock snap no matter how cold it is. I’ve got big mitts for hands so that’s likely why I struggle with the Fast Snaps.

In response to the OP, regardless of the attachment hardware you choose you definitely don’t need both.

Thanks everyone for the information! The reason both where used is because I put the Duo-locks on when I bought the Slendar spoons last year and I started using the Fas-Snaps this year. I will most likely take off the Duo-Locks on the Slendar Spoons and on other baits either take off the split ring or at least attach directly to the lure with the Fas-Snap.

Those Fastach Clips look High Speed Low Drag. Might have to pick them up if I see them locally.

I also run a Spro Barrel Swivel with 18-24″ of Floro for line twist.

What knot does everyone use for attaching leaders to barrel swivel and tying on the Fas-Snap? I currently use a Palomar for all three knots but this requires them to be done in a certain order.

    Thanks Again!

Improved clinch. I quit using a barrel swivel on my spoon rods though. Last time out I had quite a few fish fly up past my spoon and hit the swivel. Spinning spoon never really hurts me because I almost always keep it moving, so I don’t bother with the swivels anymore. Just more knots to fail.

What James said. Cross lock snap on spoons is all you need.
