Headed out this afternoon for few hours of fishing. For some reason I failed to check the battery on my LX-6 and after an hour of fishing the flasher turned off due to a dead battery. I felt almost lost at first and thought about packing up but I decided to stick it out and to my amazement I was still able to catch fish. Mind you I never want to be without my flasher but it is nice to know fish still bite without it. I will also throw in an extra battery in the future.

This is the first year I’ve ever owned a flasher. I’ve always drilled holes, tried different things, and caught fish. So far this year I’ve had the flasher out three times and only caught two fish.

While I absolutely think a flasher overall puts more fish on the ice than not having one, and it’s not even close, the reality is we don’t NEED them. It’s just another tool to help us. You can still catch fish without one.

Hey flashers don’t and can’t make the fish bite all they do is show that there might be some there. I fish shallow water 4′-5′ most of the time so I don’t need one, I usually work the whole water column and on the go till I find them

Just wait until you learn all the ropes with that flasher. It took me 4 or 5 trips before I learned how tell how the fish are reacting and what to do based on what the fish are telling me. Once you get it down, you will see your catch rates increase dramatically. Not just about seeing if fish are down there, its about seeing how they react to what you are doing.

I consistently out fished a buddy of mine 20-30:1 for a week straight last year, and he is a very good fisherman. I was using a flasher, he was not. Finally I asked him if he wanted to use my old unit, he said okay and again.. took 4 or 5 trips before he figured it out and now he holds right with me and sometimes out fishes me.

Just the other day I caught probably 40-50 crappies, 40 or 50 small gills, and kept my 25 crappies while pops caught 10 fish all day. Same bait, same area, relatively same depth, he couldn’t see how the fish were reacting to his lure and I could. He still caught fish, and still claims that flashers are not needed to catch fish… he’s absolutely right! They just help to catch MORE fish.

There’s no question this is true. I didn’t suggest it wasn’t. And absolutely, once I learn the flasher better, i’ll catch even more fish. That’s why I bought it.

I’m just saying, I’ve never had one until this year, and I’ve caught a lot of fish. I definitely would have caught more if I had one, but I caught a lot of fish.

I was just being goofy, saying yes, of course flashers are awesome. But you can still fish without one.

That said, now that I have one, I want to upgrade already. lol

Its kinda sad that Im that way and I know a lot of other guys are the same. Auger not working Ill go find a open hole or bum a few holes off of someone on the lake. Broken fishing pole, used to get by with line on a stick. Broken flasher, Im heading home. Well or maybe setting up tip up some place. Used to just run a tape measure down the holes to set tip ups.

I have 3 batteries along, two flashers…Was surprised tuesday night to a dead marcum battery (I think something was touching and leaving my lure lightning ON). No biggie. Exchange batteries quick, charger is in the truck.
