Has anyone had any experience with the Striker Ice Transporter bag? I got one for Christmas and am trying to decide whether to keep it or take it back for an Otter hard case. I’ve been playing around with it quite a bit & I really like the idea of all the storage it has for rods & tackle, but I also like the idea of having a hard case. What’s your guys thoughts?

Dollar for dollar I would go with the Otter Rod Box.

If you like cutting hooks out of nylon keep the bag. Let me explain with a short story.

I have thrown my Otter box across the room and bounced it off a wall when a friend was giving me chit about the size compared to his rod bag. Later he spent 15min digging hooks out of his rod bag after I bounced the portable Otter lodge across the lake…

After running a hard box it is a no-brainer for me.

I got 1 last year and have had no problems….the hard plastic shell seems to work well….

For those of you that are using the Otter rod case, do you need to fold the spinning reel handles down? I’m running Pflueger presidents in a size 20.

Best on the market IMHO. The Otters and all the rest suit case style boxes are way to cumbersome for me. I stand my Striker up and can access everything but two rods. The only thing is you need to make sure you take off all hooks before putting the rods back in the tubes which I have always done anyways. The only con is it can get heaver than I like because I put to much tackle in the bag LOL.

Hate my Scheels ones. Same problem, hooks stuck in them all the time. Next step, Otter box.

I super love the bag. I would recommend it and it fits everything. You can carry it on your back as well. Ok yes the hooks sometime (not all the time) get caught. Easy fix is take them off I guess that would solve that. I like the Otter case just a big hard case thats not easy to carry and well won’t they get caught in there too Hmmmmm gotta try both

I am not familiar with the Striker bag but have used a Cabelas soft case and hooks always getting stuck and rod lines tangled with other rods.

I bought the otter case. At first thought it was kinda big. But have been very happy. No tangles or stuck hooks.

    yes I fold the handles

My vote is 100% for a hard case. No more tangled rods or hooks stuck in the bag and i broke way to many rods in a soft case. I have the otter box that sells for about $90 these days and in my opinion it is only slightly better than the AR 15 carbine case i got for $40 that is the same size just a little slimmer and the handle handle takes up some of the inside space. If you get the otter you won’t be disapointed. And ive never had hooks get stuck in the eggshell foam exept the ones i put there on purpose.

I use both hard Otter case and a canvas rod case. In both situations I use a lure keeper to prevent hooks going into the canvas rod holder. It’s true that the Otter rod case is big and take up space, but only use that when I feel safe to drive my vehicle on the ice. I can’t seem to find a good place on my ATV to store the Otter case so I then opt for the canvas style.

I use the otter box for my sled/atv trips, and the striker “sunglass” case for the day to day run and gun. Carrying tackle on board is not an issue for me since I carry a giant assortment in the truck, and a rose creek hybrid in each of my bib pockets. that gives me more than enough options to stay on the go. I have yet to get a hook stuck in the fabric! That said, you can always buy the tackle saver pouches and prevent it from ever happening, or take your jig off.

Thanks for the replies. I decided to keep the Striker Transporter Bag and give it a shot. I did make a few modifications. I added 2 golf club sleeves (velcro’d in) so I can hold a total of 7 rods. I could get 2 more rods in as long they have fly reels. I also bought a yard of clear vinyl and some velcro and will make own lure keepers to keep hooks out of the canvas. I just really liked the idea of keeping my rods and tackle together in one bag. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll get an otter next year.

If you pay attention to where jigs/ spoons are when you put the rods in you will have no problem. I know one of my friends cut the inside of the cloth in the tubes out.
Other wise I have 2 of these cases and have not had a single issue with either one of them. I also like the backpack straps for walking out on early and late ice.
