I broke the plastic “C” clip on one of the cross braces in my Otter portable. Here is the solution I came up with, using PVC pipe and a T fitting. You can see in the pictures the broken part, what it should look like, and some raw materials. The 3/4 inch tubing didn’t quite fit into the PVC tubing so I used a sanding drum on a Dremel tool to open it up a little bit. This ends up being a shim between the aluminum tubing and the T fitting. Then I cut one side off the PVC T fitting, leaving an opening big enough to fit around the frame piece on the Otter shelter.

Here is the completed assembly. I drilled a pilot hole and ran a sheet metal screw to hold it all together.

Looks good. better make a couple for back up while your at it or still look for the real part. I would be alittle afraid of the PVC breaking in the extreme cold.

Or just be careful with all your hard work and frustrations!
