Hey guys, I have a Jiffy Legend Model 31 ice auger. The problem I’m having with it is, it will start on first pull, with no choke and not even priming it, but that’s when it’s nice and warm in the garage. But after it sits in the cold for an hour or so, it will not start. I’ve primed it 5-6 times, tried starting it on full choke, half choke, no choke, but it just simply will not start in the cold. No matter what I try, it will not start when the auger is cold. I’m wondering what I have to do to get it working properly? Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, Jake

Maybe you are priming to much and flooding the carb and soaking your spark plug with fuel? If that’s the case remove the plug and heat the electrode up with a lighter, pull the auger over a few times and then reinstall the plug. Just a thought ….

I have pulled the plug, it looks really good and clean and was not soaked in gas, but I will try the lighter trick and see what happens. I’ve had this auger for 5 years now, and this is the first problem I’ve ever had with it. I have not done anything different with the starting tactics I use, but I’m willing to try anything at this point! Thanks

I would say the primer may not be working.

Sounds like an ice auger to me Try storing it inside the house.

Pull the drain plug on the bottom of the carb while inside and warm. You may have a drop of moisture that freezes when cold and blocks the main jet. May just try adding some heet first and see if it will remove the moisture.

Sounds like a Jiffy to me! I have a Jiffy 3500 series that is about 3 years old and has never cut good or ran good since day one!! Not a big jiffy fan anymore.
