With a beautiful day, we decided to try out a new bluegill haunt. After several moves, we found some nice fish scattered in weeds on a shallow point. I was fishing a 30″ TUCR Noodle with a 1/32 oz. VMC Pug Bug (green/orange glow) tipped with a modified Trigger X Mustache Worm in pink. I like to cut off one of the arms and fish it like a nuggie. The bluegills were not super aggressive and the wrong moves would spook them right off he flasher screen. Very subtle pounding and swimming motions were key to get the fish to commit and up topside. While most of the fish were very nice, one really stood out. At 10.5″, I’ve easily caught gills longer. BUT, I’ve never caught one as thick and tall and knarly as this one… A true giant!

Awesome work! Did you catch them in SD? It looks like they have been eating quite well!

Great Job on the mustache mod… Giving them monster gills what they want was key to your success !!!

    Well Done !!

As you can probably tell by the lack of snow, these were not caught in South Dakota. I’m an adventure/bite chaser. I’ll gas up the truck and drive across a couple states if there is the chance of a memorable fishing trip.

I’m seriously in love with my TUCR Noodles. I have 2, a 30″ split grip and a 28″ regular handle. I actually had to let my buddy borrow my 28″ yesterday after he got sick of watching me ice fish after fish with my 30″. They do make all the differece. We also caught countless bass up to a couple pounds or so. The Precision Noodle had no problems with the bass, either.

Nice fish, gotta love the mustache worm! Used the same trick with the crappie on Saturday with my boy and did well. Pink Glow and Natural were the ticket.

The true mark of a giant gill is when they outpace their ability to grow long, and start growing….taller! Congrats on a true pig. Beautiful fish!!!
