I just got it to start out with, im not a guy who is really into these electronics but after 2 years of ice fishing, I figured its time to add something to improve my fishing.

So I got the Marcum VX1 PRO. Took it out today to play with and tried to figure it out but was kind of hard with another fish finder in my group…so getting the gain control and IR to where it could be with me still being able to see my jig and any fish on the screen was really hard for me.

Any tips and or advice on this Model of the Marcum’s?
Any info will be very helpful

I have that unit, very nice basic flasher.

When fishing with others, go drill a hole 20-30 feet away and drop your transducer and jig in the hole. Set your gain and everything so you can see your jig and then return to your group. If you see interference have either you or the other guy push your IR once, if its still there have the same guy press it again, and again until it clears up.

I fish with another fish finder, actually MY other fish finder that I let a buddy use. I can clear my vx-1p with two presses of the IR but his still gets interference no matter what, its a cheap zercom. That’s why I love my marcum, I have fished next to every other brand and have been able to tune them out with less than 3 presses of IR.

I like it, it seems to work well for me since most of my fishing is in 8-12 FOW. Honestly, it doesn’t work great on suspended fish, it works just as good as any other flasher without zoom for fish suspended higher than 5′ off the bottom.

That is the reason I am looking up upgrade to an lx6 or maybe even a 7 for next year. Don’t get me wrong, the vx-1 works, it marks the fish and my jig and I can see them chase.. but when I get a school of fish suspended half way down its hard to see the individual fish without a zoom, I just have to fish a foot or so above them and pull an aggressive one out.
