I’m packing the truck right now. We still haven’t decided where we’re headed as all choices are kinda’ stinky right now with the frigid weather settling in on us. I really wish we could have filmed Friday and Saturday but that would have broken our run of film shoots with freakishly cold temps… and who would want that, right?!

    Happy Holidays, all!

Good week to hook up the Skeeter and head south. Go bass fishing.

That’s what makes a show a show! It just wouldn’t be right if everything went as planned! It proves that with the right amount of patients and knowledge fish can still be caught in tough conditions. It keeps me from just sitting on the couch knowing there’s a chance at a good bite! Great shows!

I like the lake contour graphics you guys have added! It makes everything more clear as to how you approach the certain pieces of structure you have chosen to fish! I like to see fish caught just as much as the next guy but also like the educational tid bits so I can apply them in my situation! Keep up the awesome work! I wish I could call fishing work!

Great episode. I am a new member and long time fan. Why don’t you share the names of the sloughs and lakes you fish in the Dakotas?

What lake are you guys on? I live in Fargo and haven’t heard of any lakes 20 miles to the west hitting good yet. I do most of my fishing about 60 miles west.

You mentioned in the show you were thinking of coming to Wisconsin. Is that still the plans?

    Thanks for tuning in.

It is important to me that as we move around the Midwest and Canada filming we show a great deal of respect for the fisheries and that starts by being mindful that we don’t cause damage by the way we produce our shows.

As a rule we never name smaller bodies of water regardless of the state we’re fishing in.

In ND for example if we filmed on Devils Lake or the Missouri River it would be a different story as those fisheries are large enough to handle a spike in pressure. But the slough we fished on in this last show is tiny. If even an additional 100 anglers suddenly dropped on that one specific slough it would be all but destroyed in short order. And that wouldn’t be fair to the locals that call that body of water their home waters or to the fishery.

When we fish on small bodies of water like the slough we fished in this last episode we reference a general area and provide general info on how to tap into the bite. Anglers willing to do a little leg work won’t have any issue finding a good bite in that same area using the techniques we shared and the pressure will be spread out amongst the available sloughs causing little to no harm to the individual fisheries.

Now that is good practice. It’s too bad most people don’t think like that and are burning spots/lakes out faster than you can shake a stick at them.

Right on, I think the 20 miles west of Fargo reference was a bit an exaggeration. Once you get to 60+ miles from Fargo there are lots of options.

I wasn’t tried to cause any trouble. I fish mostly sloughs like that but they are a lot farther than 20 miles west of Fargo. I actually thought I knew what slough but its about 60 miles from Fargo. Casselton is right about at the 20 mile mark and everything to that point gets drain tiled for ag fields. I was just surprised when you said that short of a distance. Sorry for causing any trouble. It was not my intentions.

Any chance of hitting Iowa or Illinois for an ice show? Always fun to watch the show, but fishing for perch and walleye gets old to an Iowa boy who doesn’t have those options.

Maybe hit IA/IL and target something different, like bass?

I for one greatly appreciate that you leave the smaller bodies of water here in NE South Dakota un-named. Nothing makes me cringe more than hearing a report on the radio giving directions to a 600 acre sloo that’s already getting heavy pressure. By no means do I feel I own anybody of water but it’s frustrating when you put the time in to stay on a fresh bite and it’s broadcasted all over. Happens here every year and it’ll be 3-5 years before that body will produce again. Happening right now on the lake you guys filmed on here a couple weeks ago, was very happy to see you guys left that private. Wish more people would follow your lead there. Put the work in and you will be rewarded, going to get burned more often then not but no better feeling than pulling a fish out of a place that’s never had a hole drilled. Good Fishing!

I like the Contour Elite. I have been spying on that for a few years now but it isn’t in the budget for this year, so its nice to see it in action on the show.

Hey French, was using a 32″ or 36″ Precision rod throughout most of the filming of that episode. Think of it more like an 1/8oz. spoon rod. Works great for that application esp. The shorter rod can fish those larger baits well too!

I tell ya, some weeks, that sounds like a blast. The ice grind is all worth it when you find a bite like this one though. Gets to the point where you don’t need to catch them anymore, just being out there is the reward.

I would 2nd that! John made me a 32″ Precision and it is now my go-to spoon rod for Trout and Walleye.

Maybe I don’t pay that much attention to ice fishing shows, but this weeks seem to had some really good camera work. Cool shots, good angles, good show guys and cant wait for the open water shows!!

I know I’m biased, but our guys are the best. I’ve seen them go bare fingers for hours in brutally cold temps, sacrifice just about anything for the shot, and even scale cliffs….using ropes to pull their gear up…again, just to get a good angle and “the shot.”
