2 hp Strikemaster laser mag needs work

My laser Mag is really giving me fits. It wouldn’t start, so I cleaned out the carb with Gumout carb cleaner. Then it started on the 1st pull so I thought I was good to go. Today I finally got out and was pretty disappointed. The first few holes went OK, then it started to bog down. If it’s spinning in the air it runs OK but when it has to cut ice it bogs down and kills. It also wants some choke on all the time or it kills. The only thing that looked weird to me was that I could see air bubbles in the gas line.

I think it’s time to take this thing in and get it fixed for real. Any suggestions on a good place to go in the SE Metro?

As for the fishing, it was very slow. Lots of sniffers and few biters.

Maybe replace and remix the gas. I had similar issues, tried the same fixes only to find out I had some bad gas.

Don’t get cute with that either.

Make sure the fuel lines or gromets into the tank are not split. Also check that the in tank portion of the fuel line is not broke off short.
It is sounding like fuel starvation to me, are you sure the High speed jet is screwed out enough turns?
    How does it idle?

I’m guessing it isn’t the area your looking for, but I would take it to Strikemaster. The mechanic is nothing short of AMAZING !!!

He will have you turned around faster then you can say Jiffy

Sounds like a jet in the carb is still plugged. Spraying with cleaner doesn’t usually cut it. D Rock is a great place to go its new Brighton. Of of 35w .
It is a landscape center in summer don’t be afraid they are a factory service.

Rootski, They are not in SE Metro, but there is a place called D-ROCK CENTER in New Brighton, MN. They are Strikemasters preferred repair facility. It is a landscape company, but there is a guy there that works on Strikemaster Augers. Oh, and he is really good and they don’t rape you on the price. (they are not far off of I-35)

Had a similar problem with mine, turned out that the screws that hold the diaphragm cover were loose. Tighten the screws up and it ran great.

Any suggestions of where to have Strikemaster service near La Crosse?

Well I replaced the gas line and that helped. I no longer see air bubbles in the gas line. However it still won’t idle and if I shut the choke all the way off it gags and pukes and quits. Tomorrow I’m calling D-Rock and getting it in the see the doctor. Thanks for all the help guys!

My 2.5hp Solo engine wasn’t running up to par the other day. Didn’t really want to idle and just wasn’t running right. I thought maybe it was the VP Fuels 40:1 premix I was trying for the first time. But when I got home and looked the auger over I found the black hose that connects to the primer bulb was just about pushed off the black nipple on the bulb. I noticed a few drops of gas and this was probably causing the carb to suck air causing the carb to not get enough fuel. Here in the garage the auger runs great now. Excessively priming the bulb probably caused to much pressure causing the hose to slide off…$0.02?

Try mixing 2oz mixed gas with 2oz carb cleaner. Start and if you can, hold it at full throttle and let that mixture run through the carb. If it just a dirty carb that usually dose the trick

mine was bogging down and didn’t want to idle…the carb has Tecumseh stamped on the diaphragm cover plate but it’s actually a tillotsen carb…check out the plastic cover on the pump side…they warp and air gets sucked in…just put a new gasket/diaphragm set in along with a little ultra copper in the high spots…gonna try that as the cheap fix but if it doesn’t work i’ll buy the aftermarket upgrade carb sold by my parts guy….goes for about 70 bucks but it’s not a throwaway like the stock carb…even has high and low jets so you can tune it right

Sounds like a bad gasket or something not tight, it’s sucking air and starving for fuel.
