Fishing was slow all day, picked up 14 keepers hole hopping all around the lake in about 4 hours. Then it came. I was jigging above a school of bluegill to try and bring a crappie in, 12′ down over 22′ of water, when I saw a big thick line come out of the school. I gave that demon jigging spoon a shake and it came right up and hit it. I set the hook and off it went, peeling drag and heading all over the place. I thought I had a nice bass until I saw its head at the bottom of the hole. 5″ hole of course, always the case right? I reached down and did a koonce on her and wedged it through the hole. My biggest Iowa crappie ever. Public water even!
Over 14″ and very thick. Released after a couple pictures.
The bite really turned on the last 20 minutes of light, I picked up my final 11 and had a fish as fast as I could drop it down. My buddy with me got 10 keepers as well. We ended the day with 35 keeper crappie, and one keeper that was released to make more.
That’s all for me, I’m not keeping any more fish this year. Two good days to fill my freezer is plenty.
All fish today were caught on “last years” #6 clown demon jigging spoons with the treble replaced with a #10 gold treble, tipped with 3-4 spikes.
