A buddy and I are looking to kill a few hours in Minneapolis ice fishing tonight. We were looking at Calhoun or nakomis, which look good on paper. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I might head out to Medicine to kill a few hours right up until sunset.

What do you plan on fishing for? Mostly dinks in those lakes. You might get a decent walleye or two. I’m not saying Medicine is any better. I do know a good bluegill lake that is a little further than those 2, but still right around the 494 corridor.

I ice fished Calhoun once for a GTG. We had about 10 portables and manged 2 small (10-11″) walleye between us all. But that was the only time I tried. Nokomis I’ve caught the same small walleye in summer, but nothing big. Never caught one ice fishing, but I haven’t exactly targeted them either.

I know Medicine has a good number of pencil perch besides walleye. Depending on how much time I may try both panfish and walleye out there.

    Pug,
Just noticed your new avatar, did you get a hair cut?

Thanks for noticing. My GF never notices how I try and make myself look good for her. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother. Back to ironing.

I hit Medicine and stayed a ways away from the community holes. Fished a flat in 30′ of water figuring they would move in as the sun set.

First school moved through before sun down. The sonar lit up, but no takers. Suspended from 18′ to the bottom. Once the sun was gone and it was twilight the little pecker crappies bit a little. I had no minnows, but it was interesting that the crappies preferred the dead stick slender spoon over a jig and waxie. I guess the lesson learned was once it gets dark, switch to the high profile tackle.
