I got back into fishing 2 years ago and ice fished for the first time last year. Like most people learning something I read, listened, and fished a lot and bought what I could afford when I could afford it. This has lead me to having a number of different lengths of rods for the same applications.

I am pondering the idea of sticking with a specific brand or length of rod for panfish jigs and did not know how others have dealt with this. The main perk (as I see) is that you should almost the same action/tip/backbone/feel between UL or Noodle rods made by the same company.

In my mind this would equate to 3 Noodle/UL rods for panfish jig and 1 rod for smaller spoons/Raps. My main species here in NE Indiana are Gills, Crappie, Perch.

Feel free to ask any questions.

I have one main rod for Panfish and one for Walleyes.

For panfish I have a DH Custom Noodle that was shortened just a little bit, with an Eagle Claw straight line reel.
This allows a slightly stiffer tip. I added a homemade clone of the St. Croix Spring Bobber to it for those light biting Crappies. The St. Croix Spring Bobber allows me to fish really light to heavier jigs by sliding the spring in or out.

For Walleyes I went with an Ugly Stick Lite Pro 26″ UL rod with a Mitchell Avocet 500UL Spinning reel, the drag on this reel is very smooth. I like the UL tip on the Ugly Stick and it still has really good backbone when needed.
