Looking at first camera. Doing side by side the aqua vu and marcum are virtually identicle esspecialy in black and white. My question is what would perform better color or b&w in stained water? I fish castle rock and Petenwell which esspecialy in the winter have non-cloudy but stained water. Thanks in advance.

did they change the aqua views ? I know hands down, the Marcum lighting is better in low light. I have both and so far I prefer the Marcum.

I truly believe if you get 100 replies on this post, you will get 95% of them saying the Marcum camera is the better unit !

Take a look at BK’s video of catfish in merky water and you be the judge

    Enjoy your new Marcum camera

I don’t have a horse in this race. I’m not on the Rapala Ice Pro Staff and have zero affiliation with any electronics. Just simply what I use and what I am very happy with.

I’ve ran both and in perfect conditions, not much difference. Get into lower light levers, stained water, or deep water, and Marcum will shine.

As for color – if you have enough light, the color will give much more detail at a glance. When the light level drops, you’ll need to go into a gray scale regardless. Like any video equipment, you need to have realistic expectations. The Marcum 625 & LX9 have far exceeded mine and I’m a picky SOB when it comes to details.

Here is a couple samples I did with the LX9 (same camera head as the 625) You’ll want to jump around in the videos and check out all the conditions I recorded in. I think over-all they are a great set of samples for all negative conditions. Nothing like the super clear water James was recording on up at Green Bay.

A few kitties in the scour hole – about 30+ fow = http://youtu.be/SYG_vDM8qb8

Gills along the main channel of the Miss – P7 = http://youtu.be/JZhvQ-pH-tA

18-22 FOW off a wing dam – perch, walleyes, sauger (all butt faced) This video is a little shacky because the ice is going up and down with the wind. = http://youtu.be/vyQPLqWZICA

Randy, towards the end of the wingdam vidio when it’s getting dark out did you have the leds lit? If not, was it due to believing the fish would spook with them on?

This trip out was the first couple days that I had to play with the DVR. I wanted to see how dark (after sunset) that I could still get an imagine without the LED

Roughly how far is the camera from the hole you are fishing in on the Gill clip?

How much better is the 625 with.01 lux versus the 385 with.05 lux. I thought all of the marcums used the same camera but apparently the 385s camera is not as good?

The camera head was about 4′ +/-. Don’t specifically remember since I’ve drilled a lot of holes since.

As for the LUX rating & performance, I would need a Video guy to chime in on the performance – plus how to describe/ relate to what tenths of a LUX would result in. Back when I dealt with Video equipent (camcorders) 3 Lux rocked the industry and we were all blown away and the ability to record with the elimination of the spot light attached to a camera. To relate that to the new cameras, a FULL MOON will reflect about .11 LUX. Pretty amazing how far technology has come along for us old farts.

Does anyone have experience with the Vexilar camera? Saw one of these on the shelf and for $299, I thought it looked like a respectable outfit, especially for an LCD. I have an OLD Aqua-Vu that is on it’s last leg and would like to replace.

Thanks for those with experience with the Vex!

We had the Vex 715 out next to my LX9. Bright clear bluebird sky, very similar. Low-light conditions, the Marcum was able to still give an image without the LED on after sunset. Lost the image on the Vex before sunset

Well, I think I made my mind up. The most bang for the buck is to upgrade my LX 7 to an LX 9. For the price I get Marcums best camera, an upgraded 7 that will now read temp either in ice mode, but also with the high speed transducer on my boat. And finnaly I get to view this on an 8″ screen. Thanks Randy for showing me the light. What other company makes upgrades of this calbre let alone at a reasonable cost?
