have a buddy that is looking for an extra gas auger strictly for the purpose of plowing LOTSA holes trying to stay on top of roaming schools of perch. Fast, light, DEPENDABLE, biggest factors. He is thinking about going with a 6 inch auger as well- I have been hearing great things about propane augers from a couple buddies, but I’m looking for heads ups from all of you ice-heads on this one.

The current propane augers and light are something that I have not heard ever used together. I would go with a Honda powerhead with a 6″ laser bit. Looks like you would have to but them separate or have someone like d-rock swap out bits for you. IMHO

    LM-6 is 23 lbs.
    42cc, 2.5 Horsepower Solo® Powerhead
40:1 Transmission with Heat Treated Gears
    Polymer Gear Casting Reduces Weight
VANDAR® Long Filament High Impact Handles
    Twin Stainless Steel Lazer Blade

    HL-8 8” 23 lbs. (order 6″ bit from SM)
    Honda™ 35cc 4-Stroke OHC Engine
VANDAR® Long Filament High Impact Handles
    Signature StrikeMaster Steel Drill
Twin Serrated Stainless Steel Lazer Blades
Polymer Gear Casting Yields Lightweight Power
    Environmentally Conscious, Emission Certified
    2-Year Warranty on Honda™ Engine

I would shoot for one of these options.. I have ran both.. The Solo enging LM option is slightly faster and weighs in at 23 lbs and the Honde Strike Lite with an 8″ bit weighs in at 23 lbs as well.. if you purchase the 6″ bit (this is what I did) then you can take off one more pound..

    Happy Shopping…

Tanaka Nils is 21 pounds with the 8″ 48″ bit, 42″ 6″ auger should be around 18 pounds and Tanakas have a 7 year warrenty…

The original propane Jiffy’s are extremely heavy. I’ve used a buddies (which is a 10″) and it was like wrestling a guerilla trying to cut holes. I should mention that I have an original strikelite with the plastic bit. The two augers are night and day difference.

I am intrigued by the new Jiffy propane LITE’s though. The propane auger did seem to start and run better than the strikelite
