    Hi guys,

Should I be tying on a swivel above my spoons or heavier lures that I’m fishing? What do you guys do?

I use a barrel swivel too but I find it’s not near as important with spoons as it is with Raps….

I use a snap lock, no swivel.

I use a small barrel swivel to keep the line twist down, but I also tie on a snap lock to change spoons without tying all the time.

When I need a swivel I like to tie it a foot above my snap, keeps the lure a little cleaner, especially fishing clear water or spooky fish

The newer spoons like the VMC Tingler and Tumbler as well as the jigging raps I will always use a swivel. My mainline is usually braid suffix fuse or the ice braid. I run ice majic on my leader usually 18-24 inches in length attached by a small swivel. If the spoon has a split ring on it I will sometimes tie direct depending on the bite. If there is no split ring I will run a quicksnap all the time. Hope this helps, – QB

I put a barrel swivel on all my spoons and raps. No more line twist. I have noticed without the swivel when you pull your spoon out it spins out of control. Also a quicksnap makes life easier when trying to figure out what spoon fish will bite on. I go through 6 different size/color combos. Can’t imagine retying knot every time I switch.

I definitely use the snap locks that came with the spoons. I just wasn’t sure about using a swivel, as well. Thanks guys!

Is there a certain brand/style or size swivel you guys like to use?

QB – Are you using any backing for your braid line? I’m guessing backing, 3/4 spool braid and a good amount of flouro/mono leader?

I usually run about a 24 inch leader on the business end. I do this basically so I dont have to reel the swivel through the end rod guide. I run 36 inch TUCRs so plenty of rod there. I back with pretty heavy mono just to take up space. It is an ice rod so you don’t need a hole lot of line. – QB

Pimples are my go to lure and don’t use swivels but my second lure is a rap and that I do use a swivel with.
