We moved to Baraboo this Fall. I would like ask if any one in the area would like to share some ice-fishing places to hit. I’m not really sure where to start. I have an 8 year old boy chomping at the bit to go. Please PM me if you want. I’m not looking for the honey-hole. Just some decent community type holes w/ easy access for the kid and I. We prefer to target Crappie and or gills. Enough for a meal or 2 once in a while. THANKS!

Thanks! Where at on Redstone does one go to access the lake? Is it public or do I need any type of park sticker?
I purchased a state park sticker a couple weeks ago. I was going to put in on our truck (didn’t get around to it) and today we were going to go check out Mirror Lake. I couldn’t find the sticker and my boy was pretty upset that we didn’t go.

We drove out there a couple weeks ago (purchased sticker….see above post) and talked to the Ranger. He suggested for pan-fish to fish the South end. Again, I need to find that sticker…..or just donate another $25 to the great state and get another one.

Redstone and Dutch Hollow X2! Both of those lakes have good access, are small enough to walk on to, and there are usually plenty of fishing groups to find a likely place to fish. Redstone had a number of professional ice fishing tourneys on it to prove that it is worthy of a try.

For info on Redstone stop in a Hartje’s BP station in LaValle and they’ll steer you to access and some fishing spots. They also sell quality bait.

I can’t believe nobody hasn’t mentioned Lake Wisconsin.

TJ, check out Gallus slough on Lake Wisconsin. My son used to fish it when he lived up there and did pretty good on the gills. A short drive from Baraboo and resembles the shallow water fishing from the backwaters of the Mississippi that you used to fish.

Randy couldn’t agree with you more on those two. We’ve done especially well for crappie on Redstone and TJ it’s not to bad of a walk.

X3 on redstone and Dutch hollow. Fish lake also has gobs of smallish gills for the kid. The Wisconsin river has some backwaters, but you’d have to consult the local bait shop for specifics. I’m not too familiar with that stretch, but I do decent down here on the lower reaches.

Be prepared though… If u left the Mississippi river most areas around here will be a second tier fishery in comparison.
