marcum battery issue

A few week ago I charged up my lx 9 and the charger light never turned green. Ok so I email Marcum and went over and grab a new one. Now I’m back to charge my unit and same thing. Never turn green. Anyway I try on one of my other spare battery and within a few hrs its green light. Will now I’m thinking what’s wrong with my lx 9 battery. Ok slap it on the charger and let it charge up. A day later I was lucky to be close by when I felt my lx 9 case very warm. I unplug the cord and took thing apart to find that my battery is super warm almost hot to the touch. Smells funny like burnt micro chips. Anyway my battery has warped and I guess no good. But luckly my head unit is fine. I don’t know but Marcum is not responding to my emails. To be honest this is my second battery that has gone bad from Marcum. My first one just died on my 825 sd..not even a year old when it died.ok no big deal..got pleanty of spares. Now this…could of been worst if the battery exploded…anybody has issue with Marcumbattery…even if I don’t get a free replacement it would be good to know if anything is wrong with their battery…line up…

Batteries that are left in the cold not charged will freeze and swell out when put on a charger and can explode.Make sure there charged before stowing for the winter.

I had one go bad after 3 years on my LX5. Got a good deal on Amazon for 2, 9 volts. I am on the original battery for my 13 year old Vex, but did melt the charger on it 2 years ago. I purchased a back up 9 volt battery. My LX6 battery is working just fine. Stuff happens.

I’m not normally one to jump on the rant bandwagon, but I had/have the exact same problem as the original poster. I got my LX9 last Feb. Used it ~5 times last year, a couple times this summer, a couple times this fall, and a few times this winter. My charger has never turned green with the original battery that came with the unit. I certainly tend to my batteries monthly throughout the summer and all of my batteries in my other flashers last 4-5 years (I have 3 flashers). About 2 weeks ago, I went to pull the LX9 off the charger and the battery was hot…not warm… HOT. Like it could have possibly been boiling the battery. My battery was totally shot. It lasted 15 minutes. I charged it up again and it got hot again and was fried. Called Marcum to see how they could help me. Their solution was to have me send in my charger and they would test it and if it was bad, they would send me a new one (otherwise they would send me my charger back). Well, I wasn’t extremely happy with their service, but I sent in my charger last Thursday… Nothing in yesterday’s mail but I’m hoping to have a new charger very soon. I’ve since been using my Vexilar charger to charge my LX9 with a brand new 9ah battery (that I had to purchase..which is fine I guess).

SideTrack. Today I used my unit next to an LX7. BTW, I love my LX9. Best unit on the market, no doubt. My buddy is an (medical) ultrasound specialist so he understand these units and the transducers. He grabbed my tranducer and shook it a bit and could hear the crystals moving around… My sonor seemed to work fine today, but according to his untrasound experience, he says I should send it in… Thoughts before I call Marcum on this transducer? The bottom is also that milky/chalky white.

Mine transducer, like yours is that milky white color on the bottom AND when I shake it, it sounds like the crystals are loose

Crystals don’t move as they’re encased in resin at the bottom of the assembly. What you’re hearing is the lead shot at the top of the assembly used to weight the transducer so it hangs level in the hole. Long story short what you’re hearing it totally normal.

See above. Totally normal on both accounts.

When my wife shakes me she complains about hearing things as well.

Thank You James. That’s a relief.
