Where to go, where to rent a house for a few days, what to buy for rod and jigs. Maybe a sleeper? NOT asking much am I? Brother in Law coming from Illinois so we can do this together. I only ice fished once in last 10-12 years, lost all my equipment, portable, tip-ups in a garage fire in 2009. I’ve been to a LOTW house a few years back, only caught small saugers. Don’t have an auger or sled, no ATV or snowmobile. I do have a ranger bass boat, but I doubt that will be of much use.

My only experience is Mille Lacs. The nice thing is you could just set rattle reels in the house and play cards and talk till they go off. Don’t even need a rod. If you want to get a rod with out getting to costly go to gander and get nice combo. You probably only need a few lures as well.

If you want to come to Ely, we can put you up at Timber Trail Lodge, Mike from Ely Fish House Rental at http://www.elyfishhouserental.com/ should be able to hook you up with a shack, and we can help with tackle recommendations as well.

You can do Lake of the Woods, Mille Lacs or even Red Lake. Check out the IDO shows on this site – they have been to all the lakes listed. Been to LOW many times, caught fish each time. I have a house at Hunters Point on Mille Lacs. They will treat you well. I agree, go to GM and buy a mid priced combo – LT/Med action spinning combo. Try weasels from JB Lures or the new VMC Tinglers. Use the rattle wheels at nite but if you want to catch fish you need to jig for them. Yes – Ely show was a good bite as well!
