You guys that are running the bigger screen GPS’s on the ice are you having any problems with the screen in cold weather? I am thinking about switching from my H20 to my HD-5 but I know the H20 gets real slow if I don’t keep it in my pocket when the temps. get down there.

I’ve used my the past few years but by the time i actually get out on the ice after hunting its thick enough to drive so mine stays in the heat. There have been a few times I’ve jumped around on the lake and the cold doesn’t seem to slow it down.

I have been using my HDS-7 on my Polaris Ranger all season long last year and I have not had any problems in the cold at all. I have it mounted on the top of the dashboard behind a windshield put still exposed to the cold temps. You should not have any problems and will really like the larger screen traveling across the ice no more slowing down to look at your screen.

Not an HDS but my 522. I still have my H20, but only for back up.

    Here is an old thread.

You’ll ask why you didn’t do it sooner once you set it up.

I haven’t had any problems yet but mine is behind a windshield also. I usually keep a towel around the back of it if its snowing.

somebody please explain how this works to me. What do you use for the battery? My HDS8 would be awesome mounted to the ski doo

There is a cigarette style power adapter available for the HDS units. Many four wheelers have the plugs for spot lights and other accessories.

Why not just get the phone app? I haven’t carried a big, bulky, potentially freezing and damaging, GPS since.

I have both, and they are not comparable on the lakes I fish.
The navionics app is a great value, but not anywhere near as accurate as the HDS.

Also, a phone is much more susceptible to the elements than an HDS is.

I use the wheeler battery. Run wire w/inline fuse from the battery to the unit. Or like others mentioned, use the accessory outlet.
