Looking for suggestions on purchasing a new power ice auger. My old 10 in 3hp Eskimo was good but sold it looking to go lighter but keep the cutting power.

Love my strikmaster solo. Super nice auger. Powerful and very fast yet lite enough to drill lots of holes and keep moving.

I myself would stay with Strikemaster…

I have the Honda Lite and love it !!

It now comes in a 10″ bit too if you need that large of a hole..

I’ve used and owned both Jiffy’s and Strikemasters. Last season I bought an ION. I love it. From LOW to Mille Lacs to the local lakes in the Brainerd Area, it has been awsome. I’ll never go back to either the strikemaster or the Jiffy.

You will not be disapointed in the performance and lightweight hand ability of the Strikemaster augers either the Honda 4 stroke which weighs 23 lbs on the 8 inch or the solo powered 2stroke. Both augers have incredible cutting power.

Like many have mentioned the Ion is pretty dang sweet, but if you hole hop a lot, or may cut more than 40 holes in a day you need to consider either a backup auger or an extra battery. You can seldom go wrong with a strike master, and as mentioned, the Honda 4 stroke is very light, purs like a kitten, and even smells good after it turned a lake into Swiss cheese!

I’m a Nils guy myself but it’s a shaving head and if you’re around dirty ice, it might not be the ticket. I went with Nils due to the lighter weight, proven commercial engine, longer standard drill and drilling speed. Plus, if my engine ever craps out, I can use the drill manually in a pinch without much comparitive effort. Strikemaster comes close with their Honda/Lazer pairing from what I hear.

I have used friends’ Jiffys (Model 30 and to a lesser extent Stealth) and even though I’m a fairly big and relatively strong guy, throwing those things around the ice all day is considerably more tiring than my Nils.

Is the $200 more price worth it on the Strikemaster Honda? I;m looking at getting new but what are the pro’s and con’s. I’ve had my strikemaster 2000 since the begining but at last the power just isn’t there and it just doesn’t run right anymore. So which brand?
