Going to be getting 4 new reels and I am torn between the Sedona 500FD, President 6920 and 6925. Currently I am thinking of getting 1 of each and 2 of the winner from this poll unless the poll supports a different decision. What do you like/dislike about either of these models and why?

I have no experience with Pflueger but have enjoyed a number of Shimano reels.

I have Sedonas yet from my guide days that are still going strong while every Pflueger I’ve purchased went to the big reel graveyard in the sky way, way too soon in my opinion.

They’re all smooth as silk when you first buy them. In my experience longevity goes to the Shimanos.

Shimano makes a great reel, I have a number of their models and they perform well. That said, there is one particular, higher end model that both me and my dad have had a ton of problems with. Shimano did nothing to earn my dad’s loyalty back, so mine went with his. Now I buy all Phlueger. couldn’t be happier.

Awesome responses so far, I’ve personally never used a Pflueger as I’ve always been a Shimano guy. From this response maybe I’ll just get Sedonas all around… but I’ll give the Pflueger guys a chance to make a case.

Same experience here! Used to think replacing reels every 2 years was normal until I tried a shimano.

Only pfluegers I have that have held up are ones that I rarely use!

There was a post on here last spring that talked about how great the Pflueger President was, so I bought one over the summer and so far it has been nothing short of amazing! Its a bummer to see that all these people are knocking the reel after i bought one because nobody had anything bad to say about them before!

Sedona X 100. Just my experience but mine were good for 2-3 years then you set the hook and reel spins backwards. BIG problem. Just my experience with the 3 presidents I have owned. Sedonas have been flawless with zero maintenance. I may be the needle in the haystack- not trying to bash- just my experience.

I have 8 president 8920 reels and 4 of the trion that i have abused going on 10 years now. All work great, not one has had any critical issues. I have had the backspin problem P4walleye mentions, typical after the reel has taken a swim in the minnow bucket, nothing that the occasional cleaning and re-lubrication can’t prevent or clear up. I have 4 shimano sedonas I got from my father, good reels too.

If it matters, the bail springs on the pfluegers are stronger, we were going over this at the ice show last night with the new models.

I own 5 pflueger prez and one supreme. I like them well enough especially that supreme, but they work much better when you clean and lube them annualy.

Pflueger gets my vote. All I can say is rock solid. Now I’m on the cheap side with the trion and they are great. Think I’m around 12 between ice and summer reels. One president for the wife and she like it a lot. Now I used to have the higher end shimano reels and after a few years the bails would not stay closed so a friend of my got me to try the trion and I never looked back it seems to be a work horse for me.

I have 5 Presidents from the 20s up to the 40 and am quite happy..
While mine see nowhere the use that James and others here do,I have had no troubles with any of them.
When I buy one, the first thing I do is re-lube with Hot sauce and grease and am good to go for 2 years
Since the price point is the same it’s really 6 of one -half dozen of the other….
But -for me- it’s the Pflueger

I have Trions, Presidents and two purist. They have performed great for me. I do annual maint. but I enjoy that as it gives me something to do in March.
I know I don’t fish near as hard as a lot of the other guys here but they got a pretty good workout last year. When the Pfluegers are on sale they’re easy to stock up on, I really like the Purist.
