I try to stay out of the wind at all costs. I also make sure to keep my neck covered with one of those balaclava from Cabelas. A hunting buddy gave me one and it extended my cold weather deer sits by a hour or two. Also moisture wicking socks and long johns no cotton against the skin if you want to stay dry and warm. Chopper mitten large enough to wear lighter glove underneath for handling rod etc then when hand gets cold put chopper back on. I also use Zippo hand warmer in a pocket. Biggest thing is stay out of wind and don’t get sweated up walking drilling holes etc take layers on and off as needed.
Not overheating is a good piece of advice. If you are prone to sweating, take off a few layers to drill holes, set up the shack, etc. In my experience, sweat is the easiest way to get really cold except for maybe frozen fingers from that darn minnow bucket.
My best luck has been: Dry fit first layer Fleece second layer Wind sheer/waterproof third layer Walk to your destination in first or second layer, set up, then put the 3rd layer on last when needed Don’t put it all on at first when you are tracking out Wait till the strenuous work is done then start to layer up This goes from head to toe with this suggestion
A little trick I learned told about yesterday. If you have trouble with your feet sweating and then getting cold, spray your feet with a aerosol antiperspirant.
