James and I have the truck pointed north and are headed to find a walleye bite in the AM. We had hoped to fish some perch in ND, but the weather out there has already turned into what we hope to avoid here in MN. Keeping east of the storm buys us a day or two, but we’re headed to Upper Red where they have more than a foot of snow forecasted for the next few days.
This wouldn’t be the first front that we’ve tried to stay ahead of. Most memorably, a show on Lake of the Woods from the NW Angle found us coming back in terrible weather, pushing snow with the front bumper of James’ truck on US-2 outside of Deer River. You know it’s bad when you can take a pee-break in the middle of the highway knowing that there’s no chance you’ll be running into other traffic. With eyes glued to the MNDOT website, they were shutting down highways as fast as we could take them while making our way south.
Given the popularity of URL these past few years, we hope to knock out a show and shine the light on what we learn for those heading up in the next few days/weeks. One thing’s for sure, it’s always an adventure, and we’re crossing our fingers that pre-frontal conditions will turn the bite up enough before the snow and wind pushes us out.
Will keep you posted if we have coverage, otherwise we’ll be sharing photos tomorrow night!
