I have been going back and forth over the last 2 weeks between the Marcum LX7 and the New Vex FLX-28. I ordered the LX7, someone tell me I made the right choice!

Im not trying to start a Vex vs. Marcum/Bird Fight..

First Ice for me next weekend, hopefully with some new digital electronics!

    You made the right choice.

Realize the FLX-28 (from what I understand) is a motorized flasher. The LX-7 is a full digital system that is upgradeable.

The LX-7 has more display options while the FLX-28 is still the same old flasher with a slightly different display set-up.

Thats it in a nut shell. Being upgradable is the biggest difrence. I have only been able to use mine out of the boat once and the clarity was unbelievable. Go forth and fish and never second guess your choice again.

I was in the same spot. I ended up getting the LX7 today actually. I litterally went to the store and played with them both for about an hour. I did hours of research online about the LX7. when playing the FLX-28 i dodn’t like how the green tick marks represented a depth vs a traditional numbered grid if that makes any sense. the LX7/6 and 9 offers the ability for you to choose what you want to view witha simple touch of a button. Grid view/ vertical/ flasher and you can choose how you want to view it. 3 color / 6 color or gray scale. But to each their own.. I will be putting my LX7 to the test and if I don’t like it i’ll return it, but from the reviews I doubt I will.

You will not be disappointed, the ability to run in graph mode with great digital detail makes it an awesome unit. – QB

You made the correct choice, Digital is the future of ice fishing electronics. I had the Lx-7 and loved it, then was looking at the Lx-9 only two months after I bought the Lx-7. So I ended up upgradig to the Lx-9 and absolutly love it.

Given the price point your at, no doubt you made a great choice. As stated above, the digital trend will continue and your not locked into a single mechanical machine. Everyone has different levels of expectations of their electronics and different applications. I’m extremely analytical and need to see/understand everything in the water column as I fish and the lx9 is the perfect fit for me. I have yet to fish with anyone that has bought a lx6 and up that didn’t have their expectations exceeded.

    Marc,

I certainly don’t mean to hijack your thread, here, but I wanted to ask you (and everyone who has responded), how deep of water they are fishing with their LX-7? I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these at the show this weekend, but my home body of water has a max depth of 15 feet. Wondering what kind of experience people have had with them at these shallow depths?

I have only gotten to use mine in the boat once. We where anchored in 14′ of water and all i can say is I cant wait to get it through a hole in the ice. Tranducer hanging over the side of the boat in waves I figured it wasn’t going to work well but it was flawless. Wheather permitting it will hit the ice Thursday or Friday . All the playing I have done with it has met all my expectations and then some. Pull the triger you will not be sorry.

Most of the lakes/depths I have been fishing this season have been under 10 feet, the lx7 has worked great!

I used mine for the first time yesterday. We fished in average depth of 10-15 feet and I had no issues at all. We moved to some shallow areas <6′ and in the weeds. Again no issues. Fished 4 feet away from an FL22 and had little to no Interference.

Mine works great in shallow water. I usually put the cone angle at 20 degrees then.

Thanks for the info, everyone. With a little negotiating, I’m going to try to wrangle one into my school-teacher budget at the ice show this weekend.

I fish alot of shallow mud bottom sloughs in south dakota and the lx-7 works great and the different cone angles really let me search alot of water through one hole. – QB

There are some good prices on them at the show. I picked one up for $575 out the door.

Your gonna love it I just ordered a LX9… after runnin’ a friends 7 last year. One tidbet of info that I don’t think was mentioned yet is battery life…. being digital and not mechanical, helps the LX digitals run longer and stronger

The best I could get without trying too hard was $600 out the door at Capra’s Sporting Goods, next best was Thorne Bros @ $620 out the door.

I have been hearing about a lot of amazing deals at the St. Paul Ice Show lately. If you don’t have an LX7 yet, it would be a good idea to get to the show this weekend.

It was an outfitter from Montana that had a booth. He was matching anyones price, but no tax. Marine General had it for 575. So he matched it.
