Hi all, Hope everyone is having a safe and productive start to the ice season.
I have been invited to go to my buddies’ cabin on Portage Lake just south or Winni in a few weeks. I’m not looking for secret spots or such, but suggestions for walleye presentations and any other tidbits you may think of.
I can’t wait. The FW said “Is it starting already?”

    Thanks,
    Don

Big portage doesn’t have much for structure except for a sunken island out towards the middle of the lake. Best bet is to fish the weedline on the deepest side of that island. You’d probably have better success chasing the panfish.

    Deep portage offers more structure.

He’s referring to a different Portage than the ones you are thinking of.

We have never caught walleye, lots of smaller perch, plenty of pike, and some crappie. There’s a deep hole on the east side, this is where we start exploring.
