Will I find walleyes

Just updated my Navionics to the plus and found this point. Looks like the top is at about 5fow and drops to about 10. Is that too shallow for walleyes during the winter or is it worth it to punch a few holes and see I’m looking at the inside turn in the middle of the screen mostly. During the summer people do catch walleyes and crappies in this area. I know this isn’t a lot to go off of but I know there is a lot of knowledge on here. Thanks

First of all it is hard to say just looking at 1 part of a lake. I understand why you didn’t post a picture of the lake. The problem is everything is relative. If the max depth on the lake is 10-15′, then I’d say it would. Not only that, but every lake is different.

The most common response you are going to get is, “There’s only one way to found out”.

Are the dotted lines marking the transition between bottom types?

The lake is lake holcombe. This area of the lake is shallower with the average depth of 10-15 feet along an old river channel. There are deeper spots that many people fish and it gets deeper by the dam. I beleive the line is actually marking the old river channel. I know that it is a community spot during the summer, but never see anyone their in winter.

Looks like a good spot to try. I catch walleye’s in 10 feet of water and less in the winter quite often. Usually in and around weeds. Early and late ice I seem to find them shallow the most. If you have deep water near that point it’s a good migration route for fish. Especially if there is some cover for them up shallow. If there are break’s along the way from deeper water to the shallow such as rocks, stumps, weeds, ect, it adds to them wanting to use the area, it provides them with a known route to follow and cover for them to ambush their prey. Don’t be afraid to try this area out deeper when there has been a recent cold front or during high day light hours. Cold front’s and bright sunny days I look for them a little deeper and move shallower as it gets closer to dark. This does vary from different bodies of water and the water clarity. This should give you a general rule to try.

From everything I have read I would give it a go especially a few hours before dusk till after the sun goes down.

Start with holes out deeper during the daylight hours and move up on the structure as it gets towards dusk. Drill all your holes right away to limit noise at the prime time. If possible get a buddy out there with you and set some tip ups in the shallows and when they start getting flags move in as quiet as possible. Work everything from the inside turn to the point on different trips. Even down the shore to the left. Just because they aren’t there on your first trys don’t give up. They can be there one day and move on the next. Feeding windows can be well past dusk so be prepared to sit it out. Good luck!

Three lines is a huge advantage when trying to dissect a structure! Set the shack deep and wait for the shallower flags to tell you when to move. Often times, I’ll drill two holes on each spot. It makes it easier when a partner is along. Simply slide the shack to the hot holes.

In an area like this I would definately spend time drilling many holes both in the shallow water and in different depths leading to deeper water. Concentrate on deeper water during daylight hours and at low light hours morning and evening work transition areas along with the shallow water.Having multiple fisherman in an area like this allows you to fish different depths at one time. Good luck Fishing.

I’m curious about the navionics plus on your phone too. How much was it to upgrade?

I would say yes. I fish many spots like this on lakes around my area. Like some of the others have said start out deeper during the day, then work shallower during the evening hours. One tip I do have is when you get a spot that you believe should have fish, be patient with it. Be careful how early in the day you start because you might go all day not getting fish in the deep or shallow water, but come evening time the fish will most likely turn on in the shallower water. I have had that problem before . Almost no matter what lake you fish, the sharpest break to the deepest water will hold the biggest fish in that lake. Im talking walleyes by the way. . Good luck fishing

Update was $3.99. IT gave me much more detail in the lake that I mostly fish.

Fish the inside corner and also the point, both are prime spots. Did the $3.99 upgrade give you better detail on Holcombe? I have always wanted to fish Holcombe but never made it up there. My GF used to go there as a child with her parents, she wants to go back and get a cabin and icefish for a few days.

Holcombe was enhanced by the upgrade. Previously I think it was very rough sketch maybe only 5 foot contours. My parents bought a house up there about 5 years ago. We are still learning how to fish the lake. We can do well certain days but strike out the next. I’m sure the resort could put you in a good place. We typically go to the community hole that is by Lion’s park. There are cribs there and you will see many people set up. Crappies and walleyes are what most people fish in that area.

Caught walleyes and perch last night in depths from 4.5′ to 6.5′. I was on a sharp break from 4′ to 18′ and never marked anything deeper than 7′. The fish I marked were really aggressive and coming up shallow at sunset for one reason… to eat.
