Well, after a long, long off season, I’m planning on getting out on the ice tomorrow morning. I’ll have my picks on for sure. I’m hearing some quiet reports of fishable ice and am ready to check them out. That is if the anticipation of drilling that first hole doesnt kill me first!

Good luck and be safe to the other brave souls also scouting for first ice tomorrow. Pics to follow when I get back.

No pictures please. Be considerate to those of us chomping at the bit that need another week before they will get on safe ice.

    Ha! Good point.

For all I know, the pics could be of just skim ice and open water. I guess we’ll see…

Hey, are you the guy who posted picks of those Jumbo Jumbo Perch last year? If you are, you can post those bad boys again!

    Guilty.

I’m fishing for trout tomorrow though. I know nothing about trout so it will be interesting to say the least.

Be careful, I’d rather see a picture from shore than hear a sad story!

good luck Andy, stay safe and slay the hell out of them. Shouldn’t be long now before we are standing on hardwater up here around Brookings, I suppose if you have a big set of courage you could be this morning but I am kind of a chicken.

    The ice is about 4-6″.

The only problem is that the scenery really sucks.

A 19 inch cutt. Pretty darn fun on an ice rod. The drag even got a little workout. Anyone ever eat these things? I’ve been throwing them back

I used to trout fish all the time if you can keep them between 10 and 15in they make a great meal you just cut the heads off and gut them put them in a pyrex dish with some none stick spray on the bottom I like to put fresh cut lemon inside them with some lemon pepper seasoning and squeeze some juice out on top of it with the same lem pep seasoning and if I want it a little spicy Ill throw in about half of a jalapeno inside and set it on top with a little bit of Cayenne pepper inside and out then cover with tinfoil and bake at 350 for about 10 to 15mins kinda depends on the size of the fish little ones cook up fast let me know if you give it a try just one way I used to do it makes me want to go get some more just to have a snack laying around oh and congrats on first ice first time slaying them

Even though I am still doing my last open water trips for the next week I along with many other of us are very anxiously awaiting the Arrival of the Ice fishing season that is almost if not already among some of us. Please be safe when venturing out on first ice and always use the buddy system.
