It is cheaply made Chinese product! Hence the profit margin is HUGE! So that’s why they are. Not overly impressive one iota to me.. For a shallow straight line rod I’d never use a through blank setup. The reels and drag system are not the best. If you break off there a pain in the butt. I’d much rather fish a rods with eyes ands fly style reel for big fish fighting ability and easy of use. IMHO!

I don’t think you quite understand what they are made for. They are made for how we fish here in the river backwaters. 2-3 feet of water with 6# line in the stumps. You just walk round and jig each hole, when you hook a fish you lift it out of the water, there is no drag. If you hook a big fish its gone anyways, it will wrap you in the brush before you can even turn its head. Most guys use a cut down open water rod with a schooley style reel, rod length around 4 feet. For this type of fishing, the long through-blank rods are best.
I use a cut down open water rod that is 36″ with a schooley reel and 6# cajun red. I wish I had a 4 footer as it starts to hurt the back after a while.
I’ve been fishing the miss and Wisconsin backwaters for 25 years. I make my own long rods for shallow water fishing. If your using 6 pound test that’s a tad overkill on crappies. Jerking them out as you say with that broomstick setup you’d lose 75% of your fish. I’ve fished beaver huts and snags without problems using 4# test #6 rembrants and my setup. I also have the option to losen my drag if a big bass grabs it. So I’m not sure where your going here???

I don’t loose hardly any fish, maybe one or two a day out of 20-30. About 10%, not 75%. And they come from wrapping themselves in the brush when I didnt yank them out fast enough.
Not sure where you are fishing, but when we hook bass its over. We are fishing IN the brush, you have to work your jig down through the brush to get to the fish. Two feet off the brush and you won’t catch a fish. Sometimes the crappies wrap you in the brush and it takes 2-3 minutes to get them out. 4# line just means more lost jigs and fish. The last week of the season last year I think I lost 20-25 jigs fishing in the brush.. but if you didnt do it you didn’t catch fish. Most of those losses came when I tried to use a jigging rod (TUCR noodle) in the snags instead of my brush rods.
So….. From what I can tell from your spirited discussion is that it excels in situations that I do not have locally.

Isn’t that always the case?
Just proves that what works for one person does not work for everybody.
Lol, yep ok I guess I’ve never fished in brush before! Not everybody here is a rook river angler!!
On a side not why don’t you run braid to a 12#fluro leader and a m/h vertical jigging rod! You could really turn them outta the brush that way! Just rip em in like I do with my flippin rods! 65# braid and a 6/0 hook with a 8ft xfst flipping stick!!
