I retired my 1997 Otter II Cabin (the purple one) and picked up a new Pro XT1200 Cabin yesterday.

What tips and or suggestions does anyone have regarding assembling these the last few years. I do the typical… Lock tight on nuts and bolts, graphite or dry lube on the poles to keep them from binding over time. I’ve used Remington Shotgun Dry-lube on the poles. No greasy or oily residue and stopped my older shelter from binding.

    What else have you learned?

Wrapped all the little screws on the poles with electrical tape. Noticed last year that they started to work themselves out.

Leave the house set up like you would for fishing for a couple days. Lets the skin stretch and will be easier to set up the first time you want to use it on the ice.

Thanks Shane! The new Otter XT1200 plus the new Vex FL-X28 and I’m ready to get this ice season cranked up!

Definitely going to have to let this new shelter stay set-up for a few days to get stretched out. Getting the fabric cover to clip around the bottom took a lot of effort to get it to stretch out.

Will be wrapping electrical tape around the poles/screws in the frame. No more then got it set up and one already fell out. I tried to be very careful putting the self-tapping screws into the poles. Doesn’t take much effort to over screw them.
