Does anyone have a recommendation for a good, quiet generator for ice fishing? I have a 7×12 house that is wired for 110v. I have to run a ceiling fan, crockpot/pizza oven, small tv and dvd player, and a few lights.
Thanks!

Honda 2000 worth the money
X2. Quiet and easy starting plenty of juice and very portable.
I don’t have one at home but, I had to use them out to work. We had Honda 2000’s and one bigger. You can go to Northern Tool and Equipment and see about 3 or 4 different brands. A few a video’s to look at. Good luck on what you get!!
I went to Northern Tool set on buying a powerhouse generator. What’s a few decibels right? He started them all right there in the store. Changed my mind, Honda all the way, no comparison for reliability and noise.
Honda’s are great and it’s tough to beat them, but you might want to check into Yamaha.
I didn’t even know they made generators.
I saw one at Bay City Hardware last year and was impress with the size, db’s and sticker.
Just a great option.

x2 on the yamaha
FYI the Yamaha 2000s no longer have a fuel pump so if you plan on adding an extended run fuel tank its not as easy as doing it on a honda 2000. It has to be a gravity feed setup.
The Honda is tough to beat but the Yamaha might be a hair quieter. You will pay more for a Yamaha. We ran 3 houses with tvs off of a Honda 2000 with no issues.

I am not sure but I think Yamaha makes one that runs on propane might be worth checking into.
Thanks guys,
The Hondas or Yamahas sure sound like the way to go. I’m willing to fork out a bit more for a quiet and reliable machine, but my father is set on saving a few bucks, and is leaning toward the Powerhorse from Northern Tool. Has anyone brought one of these out on the ice, or used it for anything?
Tmboy2001. I have used the Powerhouse and it is very loud extremely heavy and hard starting. Of all the generators I have used it was the worst. If your dad wants to make allot of enemies on the lake that would do it. I have not used the Yamaha’s but the honda 2000 is quite, easy starting and easy to load with one person. The powerhouse will take 2 fit men to load into the back of a pickup. Just my $0.02 worth. I would spend the extra for the Honda.
Totally agree Boss,
I have a 4500 Generac Generator for the house. It’s a very good unit for what I use it for not on ice.
My neighbor told me once that if it wasn’t for my generator waking him up, he would have over slept for work. He didn’t have power either.

My opinion and post was only based on using it on the ice and the desire to be somewhat quiet. For home emergency power like Brian uses it for a lot more options come into play. If you fish in central Minnesota anywhere near Brainerd, please get a quiet one.
Thanks for the clarification. I fish on Knife Lake, just north of Mora. It’s max depth in the basin, where I and everyone fishes, is only around 13-14′ deep. A loud generator would definitely scare the fish away, and I wouldn’t make any new friends in the immediate vicinity, either. I’ve settled on a Honda, but am limited in my budget due to me being a public school teacher Would the Honda 1000 be adequate for powering a few lights and a small tv and dvd player. I know I should look at the wattage of all the appliances, but I want to hear from someone who has actually used one.

I pulled the trigger and went with the Yamaha. I like the fact it has a fuel gauge and comes with a battery cable, and was able to get it for a few bucks less than the Honda. It should be arriving in a few days. Thanks for all of your input, guys!
