Are the hook size for Custom Jigs and Spins the number used for the Stock #? For example a DJ10 would have a #10 hook.

Yep, that is correct. DJ10 is a size 10 hook, DJ8 is a Size 8 hook etc..
October 22, 2013 at 2:07 am #1201666One request on that. I sure would LOVE to see the hook size/weights altered a bit if it is possible. A #10 head on a #8 hook and a #12 head with a #10 hook. That’s my only complaint is that the hooks are too small for shallow water crappie!

I would try the “2 Spot” for when you are in shallow water, the hook size to jig size is more toward what you’re looking for, it is great for shallow water slabs!
The Diamond Jig is tuned more for deeper water panfish where you need that extra weight to get down deeper without a commercial break!
http://www.customjigs.com/icefishing/hardspoons/2spot.htmlOctober 22, 2013 at 4:58 pm #1201772I have hundreds of 2-spots and demons. But you can’t put plastics on them and have it hang naturally. I fish plastics 99% of the time.
I love the way the diamond jig and gill pill hang at a 45 but the hooks are just too small on the light ones! Perfect for bait though.

Hopefully Custom Jigs will hear your call and present other hook size options for their diamond jigs, but if they don’t…
I will try and do a video tonight of how I tie a 2 spot or other teardrop type jig for a more horizontal “hang”. To sum it up I start out like you would with a palomar knot but skip step 2… I finish by tying off a “fisherman’s knot” and the result leaves the knot seated inside the eye, keeping the jig horrizontal instead of vertical.Edit: this works well with smaller jigs, but not as well with larger ones… never tried it on a demon, so I will test it in the sink tonight, and let you know how it goes.
Tom SawvellInactivePosts: 9559October 23, 2013 at 1:59 am #1201886The hook size in the diamond jigs is as it is due to balance. A larger hook would throw the jig out of wack balance wise and performance would go right thru the tubes.
If hook-ups are a trouble, try tipping the point of the hook either up away from the jig body or off to the side slightly.
Or target smaller fish.

October 23, 2013 at 2:13 pm #1201925Tom, a nice Rainbow trout taught me how effective a hook can be when bent to the side a bit when she did it for me. After she bent it I left it the way it was and never missed a single hookset on the jig after that. About 100 trout later that hook broke and I’ve been bending them sideways since!
I think what Kevin is talking about is the lack of shank length on the diamonds/gill pills to place plastics, he preffers the angle of the jig but needs more hook to fit his noodle. I’m currently uploading a video on youtube to link to this thread with a knot technique I use for the 2 spots to get that 45 degree hang… Unfortunately I shot it in 1080p HD so it’s taking a while for youtube to upload it!October 24, 2013 at 2:48 pm #1202100Thanks Putn’am for taken the time to do the video, I have never saw that knot style before.
October 25, 2013 at 1:23 am #1202241I made it up a while back messing with different presentations for ice fishing stream trout… Basically for the same reason Kevin was looking a similar setup.
