Looking for knee pads

I don’t know if someone is aware of these or have an idea as to what I’m trying to describe. Many years ago, I knew an old-timer that had “winter” knee pads that he said he got from a Army surplus store. They were kind of big bulky and looked like huge chin guards. He bragged them up being waterproof and very well insulated from the ice.
Most likely I won’t get my knees repaired this winter and need something like these. I searched around the net and didn’t find anything like what he had

I just use roofers knee pads. Get them at FF. The ones I have are leather and they will get get wet eventually but do last for 3 or 4 hrs. You can git plasstic now and they should keep you dry all day.The leather ones are very well padded and should go a long way towards keeping you comfy.

For just a second I thought about making a San Francisco sandal reference, but I’m far too classy to drop to that level.

This may not be the military grade knee pads but they do sell knee pads & ice fishing knee pads at Fleet Farm. Just wait till Fleet Farm starts putting out their ice fishing inventory. Should be plenty to buy. They have the full covering knee shin version and just the foam padded versions too which does the job just fine and more comfy during longer kneeling than hard shell ones.

I appreciate the help here. The knee pads shown/listed are good pads, but not the ones I’m looking for. These were like a chin guard that had a shell from just above the boot to over the knee and VERY wide. They looked pretty clumbsy for walking in, but they kept your lower leg isolated from the ice. If you imagine taking a water ski and placing a pad for your knee in the arc and cutting them to length to stop just above your boot. Sorry, don’t know how else to describe them. Just hoping someone on here might have an idea or seen what I’m trying to describe.
I have awesome jellies that I use now that are worth their weight in gold. Problem is the neoprene would absorb too much water foir using icefishing and I’ll have wet/frozen knees.

Randy, go to a second hand sports shop and look at the hockey pads. They had some that go from shin to over knee that I used for my son in a play for Charlottes Web and they sound a lot like what you are looking for. Full padding is what made them very nice for being on your knees for long intervals.

Hank – Thanks, that is the right direction. I made a call to Easton and they suggested I look at the older models without the moveable knee portion. I guess watching a few hockey games would have paid off

Yes, the old style of pads are the best for what you are looking at. Then if you want to play a little, go and get a gel pad liner and glue those in place as padding. You should be able to get those at a Menards or Home Depot or some place and make them nice and comfy!
