I took advantage of the weather today to put together my new Otter Pro XT1200.

My favorite lil helper and I went to work putting the Hyfax runners on… thats the first thing we did.. Boy I tell ya… If ya never had these runners on your sled…once you do, you will never go without them again !!!

Second was the install of the cross bar support for the swivel padded seats and the sportsmans caddy.. it is unreal how much weight this beam will support.. I know that if this otter tub was anything but roto molded, the tub would collapse with the weight this unit can hold..

I really like the padded swivel seats… With the base underneath, i like that I can move the seat to any position weather I’m fishing by myself or with my lil fishing buddy !!

The main square tubing support that is mounted to the sled is incredibly strong. All four frame sets tie in here, putting stress on not only the sled and the HD steel bracket. Again, if the sled was not roto molded the corners of the sled would be thinner than the rest of the sled and would not withstand the constant pressure that is put in this location..

Now for the real excitement !!! The new otter cover is 1200 deneir fully insulated !!! This material feels more like a high end carhart material then the plasticy material of others.. I am really impressed how Otter put this cover together.. No doubt in my mind the best shelter I have ever owned !!!

This two man extreme cabin comes in at only 103 pounds !!

Well done Otter !!! Thanks for fueing my ice fishing passion !!!

If any of you ice heads are in my area and want to take a look.. feel free to give me a shout and I’d be happy to give you a tour !!

Sure looks like she has her chair picked out. Nice looking portable.

Do these come with covers? Bought a Wild cabin last year and it came with a cover that I didn’t expect.

It was a just a bit of advice for you!

no the ProXT’s do not come with covers, I think only the Wild series did for a few years, but you can typically get package deals at the Ice Show in St. Paul that include a cover, hyfax, etc

One thing I would recommend to future Otter ProXT owners, is to install the cross bar a little lower than suggested, this will angle the seats to lean backwards ever so slightly and makes for a more comfortable seating position. If it’s set too high, you’ll keep sliding forward when sitting due to the fabric on the seat cushion and your ice fishing bibs fabric reducing friction..
