I bought an additional power cord for my 520 and then soldered a cigarette lighter with fuses to the power leads. I use it in my truck.

I also made female cig lighter end with slider clips to fit a vex battery for my 3 wheeler that has no built in battery, i put it in the trunk.

I also added a battery box to my snowmobile that had no battery either.

I have one of my HDS units on a Vex pack, got a 12ah battery and it works wherever I need it…. I did buy a seperate power cable for the Vex case….Sit it on the front rack of the quad( strapping optional) or on the dash of my truck when needed

I just put my 898 on the dash with the GPS and run the power to a 9ah battery.

All this sounds pretty cool! do you need a puck for the gps or is the internal antenna ok?

I cut the leads off my HDS power cord and wired on a cigarette lighter plug in. It goes on my boat, snowmobile, genz box, and in the vehicle. Very portable and zero issues with it.

There is no internal antenna on the 898.

I should have mentioned I have a 597, so I assume that would be fine with the internal antenna. I’m still learning with these things
