Is having scratched up Hyfax an issue?

No, it is common wear! But you can take wooden block and some 220 sand papper and clean it up if you want ,do NOT press hard ! using even and flat strokes.

Um… that is what they are there for. When they get “scratched” away, put new ones on to save your sled. Why would you purposely remove material ???

Aren’t they to assist the sliding of the sled as well? Being scratched up, are they causing more friction?

No more than the bottom of your sled would… no reason to remove “wear” material, let it wear

I have 3-6″ chunks broke out of a few strips and the Lodge still hand pulls like butter.

    Wade:

Aside from protecting the bottom of the sled, the Hyfax more help with tracking in snow than providing a slippery surface to slide upon. They do act more like rails on bare-ice, but the majority of the situations you’ll pull it in will likely be behind a machine, with at least some snow on the ice surface.

Wear like that is no problem at all!
