In all honesty, it depends on how much draw your device uses. For example…something that uses 500 mA will last 14hrs on a 7amp hour battery or 18 hrs on the 9 amp hour battery. Multiply amp hrs of battery times 1000 and divide by draw (assuming your device has a draw listed in milliamps)

I like Ocean’s answer….. mine is no where near as exact. From experience, sometimes it is the difference in finishing a long day or two day trip with a well running unit.

Also, there isn’t much difference in size and cost. I generally only buy the 12ah and 9ah batteries for the accessory items I need them for. If you have other items like black light, spot light,… pair of clips and a cigerette lighter adapter and your set. I see Battery mart has a special for 16.95 less a $5.00 instant savings on the 7ah batteries. I think I paid about $12.00 to ship a 2 pack on my last order

I noticed that Vex uses the 7 amp battery on their FL-12 Ice Pro. And a 9 amp on the FL-12 Ultra and Pro Packs. Wonder why?
