I see where they refer to the minimum “inside” hole size as 6 1/4″wide. Is this the same size used for the hole cut in the outside wall of the building also? Or is the word “inside” not referring to the inside or outside walls, but more of a dimensional term (i.e. O.D. or I.D.)? Seeing the 5″ outside pipe is fresh air coming in, it would seem like a non issue if stuff touches it? Does all the spray foam insulation have to be cut back to the 6 1/4″ size also?

Any other do’s and dont’s to make a better install over the years?

    Thanks

I’ve probably had mine for 15 years now, it’s been a very trouble-free unit. Looking at the installation manual, the 6-1/4″ diameter hole is the minimum to cut through the wall, you can go as large as 8″. Even though the hot gases escape thru the center flue pipe, you can expect some heat transfer to the 5″ air inlet pipe, hence the 1/2″/side air gap.
My walls have fiberglass insulation, I remember lining the inside of the hole with a thin piece of aluminum, just to make sure the insulation never touched the piping.

Install the wall thimble per the manufactures directions. Make sure you have the correct distances also.

We put these heaters in a couple of our fish houses and we just use the template that was sent with the unit. Seems like a big he but u still get plenty of heat around the intake pipe so u do not want anything touching that pipe. Always good to follow instructions.
