I am interested in a new walleye rod. Thinking 32″ Medium action. Any thoughts on going Tuned Up Custom vs Thorne Bros Sweatheart? PM me Please.

I think both make a fine product. I know I’ve spent a lot of money with both companies… no complaints in either direction. In the last couple years I’ve bought most of my rods from TUC for a couple reasons.

1 – pricing is similar between the two but tends to favor TUC when comparing apples to apples.

2 – delivery time has definitely favored TUC. They seem to be able to get me anything I order, no matter how customized, in a week or two and I appreciate that.

3 – warranty favors TUC. TUC offers a 5 year limited warranty. The last time I purchased a TB rod they offered a 1 year limited warranty. I’ve not ordered a rod from TB this season so that may have been updated or changed but I don’t believe that’s the case.

Either way you’re going to get a quality rod. What I’ve listed above is a few of the reasons I’ve spent more $$ with TUC than I have with TB in the last couple years. I should also mentioned that I really like some of the models TUC offers – the Precision Noodle is, hands down, one of my favorite rods to fish.

Good luck with the rod purchase.

Ever take a look at the Walleye Stinger? I suggest you wait until the St. Paul Ice fishing show and get your hands on all that is available to you in the Custom Rod arena before making a decision. Just my .02c

Check out DH Customs as well. DH, TUC, and TB are the 3 top notch custom ice rod makers right now. They all have similar models and pricing is within $5-$10 depending on options like handle and guides.

All of these companies make an awesome rod, none are better than the other, it’s simply a matter of you picking the one you like best. Talk to each company, try and handle the rods you are interested in, and make your decision there. Good luck, custom rods are sweet!
