Is it just me or does this look an awful lot like a Strikemaster? I’ll be curious to learn more.

Exactly what I was thinking. I looked up the stats and it’s identical to my Lazer Mag, SM must be making these for Clam.
August 10, 2013 at 2:02 pm #1188862I also pulled up the spec’s for the Laser Mag. The new Clam Edge Power Auger is exactly the same as the LM from the 42cc German engine right down to the serrated blades. Every spec and look matches across the board.
I wonder if this is a sign that StrikeMaster is abandoning these models, calling them old technology and will focus on the Honda version and other newer technology. SM has been really quiet as of late and has not leaked any news of what is coming out this season.
Anyone seen or heard what they are up too????
August 11, 2013 at 2:10 am #1188877I don’t think a Normark company would do work for Clam.
I do know Strike Master added a 10″ to the Honda Lite line up.

August 11, 2013 at 10:46 pm #1188985Sorry, it’s not a question of whether Normark would do business with Clam. Strikemaster does not make their engine. It’s made by SOLO KLEINMOTOREN, a German small engine company that they switched to in 2009 after moving away using Tecumseh engines. SOLO can sell their engines to whomever they like, including Clam. http://www.solo-germany.com/index.htm
This Press Release was from Strikemaster back about 5 years ago..
http://www.rapala.com/StrikeMaster—Solo-Partnership-Breaks-Unexplored-Ice/strikemaster-press-release-0006,default,pg.html?fdid=strikemaster-press-releases&id=11Since it looks like the new Clam Edge augers are using the same Solo engine, I’m just wondering if StrikeMaster will no longer be using these engines and going only with the 4-stroke Honda. SM hasn’t released a press release in over a year that I’ve seen. They’ve been awfully quiet as of late…
August 24, 2013 at 7:50 pm #1173117Wife and I pushed our way through the crowd of 0 to take a look at these at the fair the other day. Booth was completely empty except for the pro staffers all the while that we were there. Blatant copy of the red ones with a change of off switch position and what looks to be the Tecumseh transmission rather than the Solo composite version.
One thing about them is they are using Lazer blades so you should be able to get blades from Strikemaster after the lawsuits finish if you really want to buy a pirated designed blue one.

A Normark company would do work with Clam for the right price.
They are currently aligned with and produce some of the best products on the ice. Why in the world would they do business with a direct competitor to their own Ice Force?

there won’t be any law suits. Strikemaster doesn’t own Mora of Sweden nor does Rapala. there is nothing to say that Clam can’t buy the exact same drill unit for their auger. as for the solo engine Strike master and Rapala don’t own them so Clam is free to buy the same motor for their auger. Clam also stepped up and did change the transmission case back to Aluminum and the internal gears are metal and not composite. Clam and Strikemaster using the same solo motor and Mora drill unit is no different then when Strikemaster and Jiffy both used the Tecumseh 2HP motors. another plus for Clams Auger is that it no longer has a on/off switch but now rather a pushbutton kill switch. If all goes right I will be running the Clam this year. people need to remember there is a lot of rebranding going on in all industries.

fisherman-andyPosts: 252August 26, 2013 at 6:02 pm #1191529It be awesome if Strikemaster went with the GX35 Honda 4 stroke motor. From video comparisons on the web the Solo 3hp lazer pro appears only a split second quicker. Im really thinking of dumping the Solo to go 4 stroke Honda for less weight and no hassle oil gas/oil mix reasons.
Honda vs Solo:
http://youtu.be/HuumVe2DeJEAs far as the Clam Auger, thats great however it still screams Strikemaster copy cat all over. Weight and Speed will always be driving factor for me.

This is a little misinformed? It got me thinking a little. Normark is Rapala as everybit of Rapala is Normark. They have a long intertwined history. Rapala has acquired Strikemaster as well as Mora.
The only thing here that isnt owned by Rapala is Solo. So it appears that this Clam ice auger is using a Mora auger bit and lazer blades?
So this does put clam in direct competition with Strikemaster. However since Clam doesnt make the powerhead nor the auger drill bit and blades I see no current real threat or lawsuit. Clam’s probably paying Rapala handsomely to use their products rebranded as their own. Hence the copy cat auger aside the difference in some part modifications.
August 31, 2013 at 5:01 pm #1192307The prostaffers at the state fair said these new augers will be sold at $50 less than Strikemaster…
September 2, 2013 at 1:47 am #1192399Just another option for buyers. IF you don’t like em don’t buy em. They wouldn’t make it if there wasn’t a market. Would I buy one probably not. Like my SM. But there will be a market.
DakotaFowlerPosts: 8September 8, 2013 at 9:40 pm #1193713Asked the local bait shop guy here in town what he knew about them. He said the only basic difference was the clam would have an aluminum gear box…making it a touch heavier. Other than that, exact same thing as the LazerMag from StrikeMaster.
