If a guy were to buy a wheel house, what would you get? I was looking at ice castles today at a dealer in town, I would like to put one at a resort and use it year round and ocassionally take it somewhere else to use as a camper. What am I missing thus far?

Depending on how you plan to use it I would consider getting and Al fishouse. They are lighter (often light enough to allow moving with an ATV) and will last longer versus a steel frame with all of the MN road salt. I have a good friends who sell both Ice Castle’s and custom Al fish houses.. PM me if you’d like their contact info.

Yesterday I just brought home my new 8.5×19 Yetti.

It is all aluminum frame, studs and skin. The only steel is on the drop axle assembly. The axle runs all the way across the house rather than just stubs.

    Weights in at 2400# unfinished.

They have a higher price tag than the most as Aluminum costs much more.

I will have mine bought and finished for less than you can buy a comparable finished IC for but that is doing the work myself.

I honestly think that if you look closely at the quality and finish work of a few brands you will notice a lot of little things most other MFG’s dont do. Defiantly worth a look.

Oh yeah, its a Ford, Chevy thing I think.

Road Dog Outdoors makes a nice Aluminum house, little less
    money than other alum houses.

    Mark,

Did you buy your Yeti at Northland Auto in Milaca? Bought my Saturn there, good people to deal with.

I did not. I went with Ice forts in Brainerd.

I called NLAC to ask if they take Credit cards so I could get my 3% on my Cabelas card. They proceeded to call me for the next week and hound me. Did not even give them my number, they lifted it off their caller ID. They kept on trying to add things to the house if I would give them the business. Didnt feel they were very straight if they kept on changing their offers they left on voice mails.

I hate high pressure sales tactics.

Thanks! Looking for a complete house as I don’t have time to finish one. Love the cool custom projects, but with a business and small kids, wouldn’t get done till 2025.

Most all fish house dealers have finished ones in stock or get them done to suit.

Ben, if you’re interested in a custom Al house you should give my friend Jerry up by Detroit Lakes a shout… If I ever were to buy a wheelhouse I would want to do exactly what Mark is doing but probably wouldn’t have the time myself either so I’d go with Jerry. I met him up at WeFest a few years ago. He’s the shop teacher at DL and during the summers he and his son build a few custom fish houses. I don’t think he has a website but here’s a link to his FB with a phone number.
