I’m talking summer now…..When fishing in northern Minnesota or on the River, I go with an 1/8 ounce jig, either fire orange or chartreuse, with either a yellow, white, or chartreuse 1 1/2 ” twister tail (or other similar plastics) (I just discovered the smaller GULP tails) down here, off the river or in low current spots, I have gone to 1/16 or smaller ice fishing jigs with great results. In South Dakota, we caught nice crappies on the larger jigs, fishing for walleye. I have caught pound+ crappies on the slender spoons and Gapen spoons as big as 1/4 ounce. For ice fishing I have used the same colors, but in the smaller ice fishing sizes.
