Anyone have any reviews on these auger covers? I was thinking about getting one but didn’t know if it was worth it.

I think they are the same product, but I was looking at getting the Strikemaster one. Reviews on either would be helpful.

I’m planning on ordering one after an incident last weekend. I was fishing outside without my shack chasing a school of perch in super cold weather. At the end day, as I was packing things back up, my hands were super cold that I could hardly feel anything.

I have the blade cover that you have to snake the rubber strap threw the auger. Well, I must have cut myself putting it on and it wasn’t until I got in the truck and started warming up my hands that the blood started pouring. I’ve cut my finger/hand before but this time I cut it pretty well. Time to order a snap cover!

I can’t stand that dang rubber strap so I bought the snap cap at the beginning of the year and I regret not getting it years ago. awesome product

I bought this product at the ice show last year and love it. No need to buy another cover.

I have owned the cold snap cover for several years and will NEVER go back to the factory cover. Easy on and off when your on the go no need to worry bout the cover coming off while it is on the atv/sled.

The SM one is same thing but if you own a nils/jiffy Coldsnap has them available and I have a buddy who was able to modify the cover to fit his Ion…The covers are well worth the money!

Ever thought of the Otter Auger Shield?

More expensive, but more features and ease of use. It’s become the way I transport my auger now wherever I go. The flighting doesn’t catch on the canvas or anything else when I slip it in the fish-house or truck, and more than anything, it protects less durable equipment from rubbing/grinding against the drill.

Over the years the flighting, NOT the blades, on my auger just destroyed everything I owned. It’s ripped tackle-boxes, smashed minnow buckets, broken tip-ups….all because of those thin and hard edges on the drill. Cover it and zero issues, especially on long snowmobile/ATV trips across open ice when it’s in the Otter.

Of course the added bonus is that you don’t have to put a cover on the blades, so you un-sheath it and drill. It takes up little more room than the auger itself and I don’t see myself going back to blade-guards any time soon.

Joel – I’ve actually got the auger mount from wolfpack adventures. It was talked about on a previous post (have the link below). The Otter shield does look like a good product if you are putting your auger in your portable or have the otter box. With the good reviews, I’m thinking I’m going to go with that snap cover. My factory cover seems to shift a lot putting in and out of the truck were the blades pop out and could get damaged. Definitely don’t want that given the cost of replacement. Thanks guys!

Joel, This is timely info and input. I was just in the process of figuring out how I wanted make my auger transportation better in my trailer because I have to keep the auger horizontal. I may just look at this method.

This might be a dumb question, just wondering when putting the cap on, is it two person job? like someone holding auger or can you do it yourself when the auger is laying flat on the ice? seems like you would need both hands.

That not a dumb question, You set the auger cutting end on it and just push down. There is a video on there web site that shows how to put it on and take it off. There is a small learning curve but once you fiqure it out it’s real easy. coldsnap.

Im actually hesitant to use my Otter sheild as I think it may dull the lazer blades over use. If I look at the bottom of the shield I do see wear and cuts.

I also use the snap cap too but the blades are also rubbing or cutting up against the cap wall edges which is less prone to dulling. But may still dull the blades I think?

Even thought original strikemaster cap cover is a hassle it does a better job of not touching or dulling the blades.

Got the cover today and low and behold it won’t fit on my auger. No clue what the deal is. It is the 10 inch model for my lazer pro but doesn’t fit. The videos I’ve seen my it look easy so not too happy.

I use the otter auger shield whenever I am using my house. When we go without the shacks early and late ice and have the auger in the mount we are using the snap cover from cold snap. – Q
